With all the dry weather and so little rain it’s not been a great year for blackberries, but there are enough good ones worth picking, as Blackbrook House residents Caroline and Jane have discovered. Of course, now they need eating!

With such wonderful weather, it’s a great excuse to be outside. Blackbrook House residents have been busy in the garden, planting seeds and preparing vegetables. What a green-fingered bunch they all are!

Not wanting to waste the Bank Holiday summer sun, we enjoyed a trip to neighbouring Lee-on-the-Solent to make the most of it. It was a scorcher, but well worth the effort!

Just because the Blackbrook House residents are a little older than they once were, doesn’t mean they don’t want to stay fit. These keep fit classes are a lot of fun, and do plenty of good too!

At Blackbrook House, we’re incredibly lucky to have such large landscaped gardens to enjoy. At this time of year the trees are now in leaf and the ground is carpeted with Spring flowers, which includes plenty of beautiful bluebells. It’s a great excuse to get out into the garden and make the most of the space.

We’ve had a lovely afternoon watching the Boyle O’Dowda Academy of Irish Dancing perform for residents. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their performances. The children who danced for us come from all over Hampshire and we were impressed by the very high standard. A wonderful visit, and a big thank you to the Boyle O’Dowda Academy of Irish Dancing from us all!

Yesterday, every Mum at Blackbrook House received a bouquet of spring flowers to mark the special day. it was also a great opportunity for some of the residents to do a spot of cake decorating, followed by a lovely cream tea!

We enjoyed a wonderful sing-a-long with the Odd Wednesday Men yesterday. It was a truly inclusive experience, with song sheets distributed amongst the residents so everyone could join in and fill Blackbrook House with song.

We celebrated our loved ones at Blackbrook House during Valentine’s Day, reminiscing with stories and photos. A delightful Valentine’s tea finished off a lovely day.
