πŸ’™ Looking after an older parent while trying to keep up with everything else?

For many families, caring starts with small things. A weekly shop, a lift to an appointment, help around the house. Before long, those small jobs can become a big part of your routine.

And while supporting a parent can be something you’re happy to do, it can also leave very little time for yourself.

Our latest blog looks at how families in Southampton can support an older parent without putting their own wellbeing to one side.

We cover some of the signs that you may need extra support, why you don't have to manage everything alone, and how even a few hours of homecare each week can give family carers some much-needed breathing space.

If this sounds familiar, have a read. You might find a few ideas that could make things a little easier.

πŸ’™ Proud of our team!

A big congratulations to our Care Assistants who have recently completed their Care Certificate. πŸŽ“

The Care Certificate covers the essential knowledge and skills needed to provide safe, respectful and high-quality care. Reaching this milestone is a great achievement and reflects the time and effort our team puts into learning and developing their skills.

Well done to everyone who achieved their certificate and thank you for the work you do for the people we support every day. πŸ‘πŸ’™

β€œI don’t need a carer.”

It’s something many families hear when they first try to talk to a parent about homecare.

But what’s behind that answer? It could be a fear of losing independence, concerns about having someone new in the home, or simply not being ready for a change.

Our latest blog looks at some of the common reasons older people may say no to homecare, and how families can approach the conversation without making their loved one feel pressured.

We cover practical ways to start the conversation, why companionship can be a gentle first step, and when it may be time to look for additional support.

πŸ’™ Building Connections

Good relationships matter in care. When people feel comfortable with the team supporting them, it can make a real difference to their experience.

This photo from our Green Picnic shows two members of our team enjoying some time together, but the same spirit of connection is something we bring to the people we support every day.

We take time to get to know each person, understand what matters to them and build trust through regular care and companionship.

πŸ’™ Happy Monday | Meet the Team

We're starting the week by introducing Ali, our Office Manager.

Ali joined Right at Home in 2016 as an Office Administrator, having previously worked in roles including Social Services and a GP Surgery while raising her twin girls.

After 18 months, Ali stepped into the role of Office Manager and has continued to take on new responsibilities along the way. She is also one of our Basic Life Support Trainers and a Mental Health First Aider.

It's great to have someone with Ali's experience and knowledge helping keep things running behind the scenes and supporting the wider team. πŸ’™

πŸ’™ A lovely review from a family we were able to support at short notice.

Arranging care for a loved one at the last minute can be stressful, so we're pleased to know our team was able to put this family at ease and provide consistent support for their mum.

It's especially lovely to hear that the same Care Assistants were able to visit each day, helping build a good relationship in a short time.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for recommending Right at Home Solent. We really appreciate it. πŸ’™
