This evening I’m reviewing a funeral service for a family.

One of the most important parts of my role is making sure the service sounds like the person we’re remembering. Not a collection of facts, but a reflection of a real life, with its own stories, personality, and character.

Every family entrusts me with memories that matter, and I never take that responsibility lightly.

Listening is one of the most important parts of my work as a celebrant.

When I sit down with a family, the conversation often starts quietly. People begin sharing memories, little stories, and moments that meant something to them.

Sometimes it is the small details that bring a service to life. A favourite song, a habit everyone remembers, or a story that always made the family laugh.

My job is to listen carefully and gently guide those memories into a service that truly reflects the person who has died.

Every life has a story. Often families already hold the pieces. They just need someone to help bring them together.
