Wonderful session with this 8yr old sport horse mare who has had a very tricky few years with injury and chronic issues. She has been extremely resistant to bodywork from fear and anxiety but a team of people are helping her improve, not least her wonderful owners giving her all the opportunities she needs for rehabilitation. TODAY she was engaged and happy and so relaxed! đź’•

The difference between a rubdown and a massage is an art form—an art form called accuracy.
—Jack Meagher

Effective massage begins with accuracy. It requires trained hands, a thorough understanding of anatomy, and the ability to locate specific structures with confidence. The goal isn’t simply to touch the horse—it’s to touch the right tissue, in the right way, for the right reason. That precision is what transforms a routine rubdown into a skilled therapeutic practice.

Admin Post!
Usual summer madness with my diary and I am already filling up August dates with new and existing clients.

I have very limited availability in July so please DM on FB or Instagram if you would like an appointment not already discussed with me.

I currently cover Kent, Surrey, Sussex but as I am sure everyone understands I have to be a little more careful with route planning in relation to current fuel costs etc so whilst I am happy to service clients up to 2 hours from my home in West Sussex, some clients may find I am only able to offer specific dates where I can arrange to be in that area.

27 year old Flynn bossing the foam balance pad. His owner works with individual balance pads regularly but he was completely unphased about stepping up onto the higher pad set up. Lots of processing, gentle swaying and completely relaxed.

The lovely Orla who suffered a knee injury Feb 2026 and currently off work on controlled field rest. Her owner has kept up her 6-weekly bodywork sessions throughout her time off as well as Red Light Therapy. Fingers crossed she will get the all-clear to come back into work early June!

This is such a brilliant post - I do hear the 'just a massage' or 'just getting a pamper' comment and its disappointing to say the least.

I have been an equine sports therapist for 23 years now, successfully running my own business with professional and amateur clients across most equestrian disciplines and have invested considerable money and time into my initial and ongoing training and development. I work alongside vets, farriers and other professionals. I pride myself on the service I offer, working in rehabilitation, performance or maintenance - there is no 'just' about it.

“Just a massage therapist.”
Those words get thrown around far too lightly.

I promise there’s nothing “just” about what we do. Every session is built on solid foundations, anatomy, biomechanics, pathology, and a deep understanding of how pain, compensation, workload, and management all link together. Massage therapy is good solid training, ongoing CPD, educated hands that can feel what’s changing in the body, and the professional judgement to know when treatment is appropriate, and sometimes more importantly when it isn’t.

It’s more about spotting the quiet signs before they become loud problems. Working alongside vets, farriers, and trainers as part of a wider rehabilitation or performance plan. We are helping horses stay comfortable, move better, and cope with the demands placed on them, whether that’s elite sport or everyday life.

Massage therapy isn’t a luxury. It isn’t guesswork, and it definitely isn’t something you can dismiss with the word “just.” So next time you hear that phrase, pause for a minute. Because behind it sits skill, science, experience, and accountability.

👀 And there is absolutely nothing “just” about that.
