Achilles pain that just won’t settle? 👣
You’ve tried resting it.
You’ve stretched it.
Maybe you’ve stopped running altogether.
And yet… it still feels stiff first thing in the morning.
Or sore halfway through a walk.
Or tight every time you try to build your training back up.
Achilles pain isn’t usually about something being “torn” or permanently damaged.
More often, it’s a load and capacity issue.
Your tendon has been asked to tolerate more than it’s currently prepared for — whether that’s from running, long walks, gym work, or even just a sudden increase in daily steps.
The good news?
Tendons respond extremely well to the right kind of structured, progressive loading.
In our latest blog from The Physio Crew, we explain:
✔️ Why complete rest often doesn’t solve Achilles pain
✔️ What morning stiffness actually means
✔️ How to rebuild tendon capacity safely
✔️ Why flare-ups don’t mean failure
✔️ What physiotherapy should look like
If you’re feeling frustrated or unsure what to do next, this will give you clarity.

“It’s just a dead leg" ... Not always.

Ongoing pain and stiffness could be Myositis Ossificans.

In this video Nicole covers how Shockwave can help support Myositis Ossificans.

Flat feet do not automatically mean a failing tendon.

And this is where a lot of unnecessary fear starts.

Someone looks down, sees a lower arch, develops pain on the inside of the ankle… and the story becomes:

“My arch has collapsed.”
“My foot is falling in.”
“This is permanent.”

Let’s slow that down.

Arch height is a structural characteristic.

Some people have higher arches.
Some have lower arches.

Neither is inherently pathological.

Tibialis posterior doesn’t exist to create a “perfect” arch.

It exists to control load through the midfoot.

Dynamic control matters more than static posture.

You can have:

a low arch with excellent strength and no pain
a higher arch with poor control and symptoms

The issue is rarely what your foot looks like standing still.

It’s how it behaves under load.

Tibialis posterior works hardest during:

single-leg stance
mid-stance phase of gait
longer duration walking
uneven terrain

If its capacity drops — through deconditioning, load spikes, fatigue — the arch may appear to lower more during movement.

That doesn’t mean collapse.

It means control capacity is temporarily reduced.

There’s a big difference.

When we label it as “fallen” or “collapsed,” we create a nocebo effect.

It sounds structural.
Permanent.
Irreversible.

In most cases, it’s neither.

With progressive strengthening, load management, and improved endurance, we often see:

improved dynamic control
reduced pain
better tolerance to longer walking

The goal isn’t to change your anatomy.

It’s to improve your capacity.

Flat doesn’t equal failing.

And posture alone doesn’t diagnose pathology.

Control, tolerance, and load response tell us far more than how an arch looks in a mirror.
