There’s a belief that finding your way to lasting fitness and wellbeing means you never go off the rails. You make every session, your nutrition and sleep are perfect. It all just runs like clockwork.

That never happens.

I’ve barely trained this week. A knee injury picked up as the marathon intensity and mileage increase. Lennie’s last ever week at nursery. A total eclipse. And a rush to get work done before we headed off for our summer holiday have left me able to do very little.

The difference lies in how you see it. I could view this week as bad, a problem, terminal even. But the truth is, it’s been fab!!! So much lovely time with the kids, watching the eclipse on the cathedral green, celebrating Lennie’s coming of age in the park with ice creams and playtime, and then a fab day on the beach today rock pooling down in Penzance.

Time to switch off now for a week and enjoy beautiful Cornwall. There might be some exercise, not loads, but I’ll come back refreshed, recovered, and revived, ready to go again.

That’s lasting fitness and wellbeing. ❤️

My Mum aka GG has always made her own jam and marmalade. And with blackberry season in full swing, Lennie went out picking blackberries with his GG last week and made his first batch of homemade jam.. and it’s safe to say it is delicious 😋

The commute to work today was hectic as always! 🤣

Half a mile walk uphill through a tunnel of trees to the studio door. 🌳🚶🏻🌲

That’s what I’m extremely grateful for today. ❤️❤️❤️

What do you think about the way we frame this with clients? Would it work for you?

What would you say if I told you we sometimes plan with our weight-loss focused clients to gain weight?

Here I explain why, when, and how we do that.

What do you think?

Happy birthday to my fabulous mom, and thank you for the endless love and support you give us.❤️❤️❤️

We had a lovely day out at the Cotswolds Wildlife Park today to celebrate.🥳

You don’t get much more balanced than great family time.🥰

People will often ask me,

“What’s the best type of exercise for me to start with?”

Now, of course, it depends on their goals, needs, and abilities, but there’s something even more important than all of these - what they most like doing.

Why? Because it’s the easiest to start. They enjoy it so they’re happy to get going on it. There’s little need for motivation or effort.

It might be walking, dancing, lifting weights, yoga. It doesn’t matter. We can work on perfectly balanced routines further down the line. The first goal is simply to build momentum.

Push that snowball off the mountaintop and watch it roll, pick up speed, and gather more types of exercise along the way. It’s much easier to do something when you’re already doing something.

I ‘m lucky I love many types of exercise - weights, core stability, balance and sports-style training, yoga, mobility work, cycling, and lots of sports.

But maybe my one true love is running - the freedom it provides, the space for my thoughts, the time alone in nature just me and the sounds of the birds, and the challenge against the clock and against myself.

After my morning sessions today, I enjoyed a corker of a 6-mile run out of Keynsham along the River Chew where it was shady and cool, then back over hills and farmland, not a soul but me. 🥰 The marathon quest continues.

What’s your favourite exercise? The easiest one for you to pick up again when your activity levels have dipped?

Knowing this gives you a fabulous tool for quickly finding your balance again when you’ve veered from the path.

Happy Friday folks! Here’s to a beautifully balanced weekend. ❤️

The world of food and nutrition can be overwhelming and confusing. Everywhere we go we are told we need more protein, with what feels like every food product being fortified with it.

Whilst we need protein, we also need a balance of all the other things as well. This simple bowl/shake ticks all boxes and is so easy to make and is delicious 😋

Growing things with Lennie is something I love more than anything (Izzie is still a bit too young and likes to just get soil everywhere, which I also love 😆) 🌱

Recently he’s been fascinated with all the seeds he finds in fruit, and he eats a lot of fruit!! So we kept some seeds from a recent apple to try and grow.

The interesting thing about apple seeds straight from the apple is that they will never match the apple it’s come from. So the Royal Gala seeds here will not produce a Royal Gala apples. Seeds are a random mix from two parent apples so it becomes a bit of a genetic lottery. So this will just be a very fun hands-on project for Lennie and he can watch them grow into apple trees, which will eventually bear fruit.. but who knows what they will be like 🤷🏻‍♀️

Apple seeds also need ‘cold chilling’ (stratification) to mimic winter and help the seeds germinate. We washed the seeds, wrapped them in paper towel and popped them in a plastic bag in the fridge. This can take 6-8 weeks. This also helps teach Lennie learn patience 🤣 he loves checking on them. And yesterday we were treated by seeing all the little seeds with roots. Lennie was delighted 🤩

They are now planted and we’ll wait for them to grow. 🌳 🍎
