It was really nice to get this little note at the end of an email from a patient.
We had dealt with quite a tricky case, sent for scans, debated the findings - I'm not sure we agreed along the way. But we had good conversations.
I think regularly about the notion that, during a consultation, there are two people in the room. One assumes the role of a patient, and the other assumes the role of a practitioner. But we remain people.
And me? I often use humour to lighten the mood, or to break the ice. I have some good old laughs with my patients, I tell some awful jokes, and I learn some back.
So it was nice to feel recognised as a person, not just as a practitioner.
