Important Announcement - Guildhall Street Surgery is proposing to relocate

Dear patients,

We are writing to share some important news about our proposed plans for the future of Guildhall Street Surgery.

We are proposing to relocate to new, improved premises in the Folca building on Sandgate Road.

Whilst any potential relocation is unlikely to happen until during 2028 and will be informed by Folkestone and Hythe District Council’s programme for the whole building, we are seeking your views now to inform our proposal.

We want to hear from you!

As part of our commitment to involving patients in this important proposal, we want to hear from our patients to understand what this proposed move will mean to you and any barriers or problems that you might face. Please complete our patient survey so that you can share your thoughts and feedback. Your input is invaluable in helping us continue to improve our services and facilities

Background

As one of two practices identified for potential relocation to the proposed medical centre, we have been working with NHS Kent and Medway ICB and Folkestone and Hythe District Council as part of this process.

The proposal is part of the council's plans for Folca and will provide healthcare services in the heart of Folkestone, while supporting the town's future as a healthy and thriving place to live, work and visit.

The current practice building places constraints on how we work and the amount of clinical space available. Subject to the necessary approvals, the proposed new premises would provide additional consulting and treatment space, creating capacity for a wider range of healthcare professionals from our primary care network, to work from the practice supporting the delivery of more appointments for patients. The additional space would also help support the long-term sustainability of the practice, ensuring it can continue to grow and meet the needs of patients now and in the future. The proposed building would also provide improved accessibility for patients and staff.

Please note that for patients who would prefer to complete a paper version of the patient survey those will be available in the surgery and can be completed and handed to reception. Further, shortly there will also be some graphics depicting what the new premises may look like and to enable patients to ask questions we are proposing to hold a couple of drop-in sessions toward the end of this engagement period and date will be published in due course.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.

PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP

We are looking to revive our Patient Participation Group, which has unfortunately been inactive for some time.

The group will ideally meet on a quarterly basis and will provide patients with an opportunity to raise issues, share feedback and discuss matters relating to the services provided by the practice.

We are keen to ensure that the group reflects the views of our patient population and would welcome expressions of interest from anyone who would like to be involved.

If you would like to join the Patient Participation Group, please email the practice on [email protected] for further information.

Half-day Closure for Training - Wednesday 20 May 2026

Please be advised that the surgery will only be open on the morning of Wednesday 20 May as staff training will take place during the afternoon.

Our eConsult will open at the usual time but will be closed at 1100 hours - earlier if all available bookings have been exhausted.

Whilst the surgery is closed care will still be available from phamracies, the urgent treatment centre at the Royal Victoria Hospital and via 111.

Our eConsult will open at the normal time on Thursday 21 May.

20/04/2026

This morning we are once again beset with serious IT failures, which are being experienced across the region, and currently we have had no option but to close out eConsult access.

If patients have urgent needs they should approach 111 a or A&E.

We hope this situation is short lived but unfortunately these IT issues are being experienced in an almost daily basis and the resolution is out of our control.

We apologise for any inconvenience experienced.

IMPORTANT

Unfortunately we are suffering from IT issues at this time (seemingly widespread across the South of England) and this is affecting our response times.
These issues have been reported and we hope systems will return to normal shortly but in the meantime if patients are waiting to hear from us or trying to contact us we would ask they are patient as we work through these problems.
Many thanks
