Something rather special is happening this Wednesday evening - a partial solar eclipse, with around 90% of the sun covered here on the Kent coast.
As opticians, we have to say the important bit first: please don't look straight at it. Even at 90% covered, the sliver of sun still showing can damage your eyes - and there's no pain to warn you.
The good news? You don't need to look at the sun at all to enjoy it - and you don't need special glasses (just as well, as they're hard to come by locally right now). The safest ways are the simplest: a kitchen colander, or the dappled light under a leafy tree, both cast little crescent suns onto the ground. Just stand with your back to the sun and watch the projection - never turn and look up.
Swipe through for how to watch safely, and our favourite local spots to see it. đ
And afterwards, if anyone notices any lingering changes to their vision, don't worry - just get in touch and we'll take a look.
