Aloha Bournemouth! 🌺🌴

Our supported living service in Bournemouth brought everyone together for a Hawaiian-themed summer party, filled with music and dancing, and plenty of delicious food.

The garden at Shaftesbury Stirling Road was transformed with decorations and colourful garlands to create some tropical fun.

The party gave the people we support the chance to use their skills, make their own choices and create memories together.

“Days like these remind us exactly why we do what we do, creating a happy, vibrant, and loving home for everyone at Stirling Road and across our wider Shaftesbury family. Here is to many more celebrations together!” says Team Leader, Fikayo.

We’re looking for volunteers to support our Learning Together training programme. Could you spare some time each week to help a person with disabilities grow?

You’ll be great at this if you are:

💚 Friendly and encouraging
😊 Patient and good with people
🖥️ Confident using simple digital tools

We offer full training, ongoing support and an enhanced DBS check. Volunteers from all backgrounds are welcome. 1–2 hours a week could make a huge difference to someone’s life.

The garden at Shaftesbury Kenway Court in Essex may only be small, but is full of life and colour thanks to Activities Co-ordinator, Maria.

She’s passionate about supporting residents to grow fruit and vegetables in accessible raised troughs. They spend time outdoors everyday and get a lot of pleasure from it.

Maria is full of ideas to further develop the space, including introducing more sensory features to enhance the experience for everyone. 💚

Norfolk Industries is passionate about providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The company produces eco-friendly products for small animals and is fortunate to have Sam on its work placement programme.

Supported at Shaftesbury John Grooms Court in Norwich, Sam has been volunteering in the contract packing side of the business to gain employability skills. Colleagues are enjoying his cheeky personality and smiley disposition!

“It promotes my independence and gets me out to meet new people,” he says.

We are pleased to welcome Sam onto our work placement programme here at Norfolk Industries. Sam has been working in the contract packing side of the business and has got on well with this work. It's great to work with people who want to work and just need the opportunity to get involved and with cheeky Sam in the building there are always smiles all around!

Shaftesbury Horizons has given this ordinary meeting room a sensory makeover. Sensory rooms give people a quieter, calmer space. People might need a break from noise and activity, or somewhere they feel comfortable.

The room has many uses - movie or pamper nights and whatever else the people we support can come up with.
