Oxford Terrace & Rawling Road Medical Group is looking for patients to join our Patient Participation Group (PPG).

The PPG is an opportunity for patients to work with the practice to help improve our services, share ideas, and ensure the patient voice is heard. Whether you have suggestions for improving access, communication, the patient experience, or simply want to help us continue to provide the best possible care, we'd love to hear from you.

We're keen to welcome members from all backgrounds and ages to ensure the group reflects the diverse communities we serve.

As a member, you'll have the opportunity to:
✅ Share your views and ideas
✅ Help shape future services
✅ Review patient feedback and suggest improvements
✅ Support health promotion and community initiatives
✅ Work with the practice to make a positive difference for all our patients

The group will meet approximately four times a year, with additional opportunities to contribute remotely if you can't attend every meeting.

🙌 Two new mental health "safe havens" for teenagers have opened in Newcastle and Gateshead. Run in partnership by charities Children North East and Everyturn, the idea is to pilot having "welcoming, non-clinical" support for those aged 13 to 17 who may be struggling.

The walk-in venues are open from 4pm to 8pm. The Newcastle venue - at the Beacon on Westgate Road - launched in April and is open Monday to Thursday, while the Gateshead premises, at 14 Regent Terrace, will open the doors on Friday June 19 and operate Friday to Sunday.

The free support sees teams there work closely with schools, local councils and the NHS to provide help to youngsters when they need it. 18-year-old who are still in full-time education can also drop-in, and there is no need for any referral.

👏 Mandy Coppin, head of children's and young people's services at Everyturn commented on the Gateshead opening. She said: "We're thrilled to be opening Nook Gateshead today and extend our service to even more children and young people in the region, continuing to show our commitment to listening to young people and creating support that truly meets their needs.

"Both Nook Newcastle and Nook Gateshead offer the right support at the right time, without judgement or barriers, and we’re here to make sure every young person who accesses our services feels supported so no one has to struggle alone."

Leigh Elliott, Children North East chief executive, said: "This is another important step forward in our mission to support young people across the region. Expanding our offer into Gateshead will enable us to reach young people in crisis - when they need us and where they live.

“Together with Everyturn, we are committed to ensuring every young person has the tools they need to grow up happy and healthy, and with strong mental wellbeing. This new drop‑in service is a vital lifeline, providing immediate support to young people in crisis and ensuring they receive the right help, at the right time."

The HPV vaccine is saving lives.

New research by Queen Mary University of London and Cancer Research UK shows deaths have fallen sharply since school-age girls began being offered it in 2008, and around 200 lives have been saved in England so far thanks to the vaccine.

The vaccine protects against high-risk HPV, a virus that can lead to cervical cancer and some other cancers.

Both girls and boys can get protection from high-risk HPV by having the HPV vaccination in their teenage years. It not only protects against cervical cancer, but other types of cancer too.

You can help protect your child by giving consent for them to have their vaccination when invited.

And remember: cervical screening is still important, even if you’ve had the HPV vaccine.

UPDATE: Power is now back on at Rawling Road Surgery.

We have a power cut at our Rawling Road Site. If you have an appointment at Rawling Road surgery with a doctor, please make your way to Oxford Terrace Surgery for your appointment time. If you have an appointment with Dr Snell please still come to Rawling Road surgery. We are expecting power to be back on between 11:30-12:30. We will keep you all posted as soon as the power comes back on.

We’d like to say a big thank you to all our patients for your patience and understanding since we introduced our new triage system last month.

We appreciate that this is a change to how you access care, and we are continuing to review and fine-tune the system as we go to make sure it works as smoothly as possible for everyone.

Our aim is to ensure that patients are seen in a timely way, while prioritising those with the most urgent clinical needs.

We are pleased to say that we are currently responding to all patient requests on the same day, so you know what will happen next following triage.
