Medway NHS Foundation Trust This is the official page of Medway NHS Foundation Trust (Not 24/7). Includes news, updates and information from Medway Maritime Hospital.

Medway Maritime Hospital treats around 400,000 patients each year mainly in Medway and Swale, but increasingly other parts of North and West Kent too. Everyday we see around 1,400 outpatients, about 250 patients use our emergency department and approximately 150 patients need to be admitted for hospital care and treatment. The range of specialist services we offer have grown over recent years, as

have the communities we serve, bringing to Medway services which in the past, patients have had to travel miles for. This includes the cardiac catheter suite, West Kent Vascular Centre, West Kent Centre for Urology, and the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit.

♿ Help keep patients moving

Thousands of adults and children rely on NHS wheelchairs every day, making availability essential for care and independence.

Returning unused wheelchairs to main reception helps keep appointments running and supports safe patient transfers.

Have you seen our Pets as Therapy Team around the hospital?

They bring joy and comfort to our patients, visitors and staff.

Welsh Terrier Jarvis is one of our 11-strong team and has just marked his second anniversary here. Living locally, his owner Graham pops in a couple of times a week or when a special request is received.

If you feel a visit from our lovely dogs will help a patient, please speak to the ward staff or pop by our Charity and Volunteers' Hub in the main entrance.

Join more than 1000 women by signing up to the Generation Study here at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Lead research midwife, Sarah-Jayne is passionate that the project is open to a wide range of women.

She explains: “As we learn more about genomics, it’s really evident that we need to involve people from all ethnicities. We need a rich diversity to ensure our research benefits everyone. This project goes way beyond babies!”

If you are expecting a baby in the next few months and would like to know more about what is involved, speak to your midwife or contact the research midwives on 01634 976714.

🌟 Today is National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day 🌟

This is a great moment to recognise the incredible teams who keep our hospital running safely, smoothly and efficiently. From housekeeping, catering, portering, transport, laundry, and the post room, to switchboard, security, access control, car parking, and all the specialist estates teams who maintain our buildings, equipment, and grounds. Their work is essential to every area of the hospital. 🥰

They also play a key role in supporting our sustainability ambitions, helping us reduce waste, manage energy use, and move towards our long-term sustainability goals. 💚

We are grateful for the difference they make for our patients, staff, and visitors across the hospital. 👏

Can you help shape the future of digital health in Medway?

Our Research and Innovation Team is inviting women aged 18 to 65 living in Medway to take part in a short survey on digital health and stroke prevention, with a particular focus on those from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds.

The survey, which takes around seven minutes to complete, is part of the WISER-AID (Women’s Inclusion in Stroke Education and Readiness for AI/Digital Technologies) project, delivered in partnership with London South Bank University. It aims to understand why digital health tools are often under-used and identify the barriers that prevent people from accessing them.
