If you're good at starting and stopping all the time this is often a mindset issue.

Not discipline.

You probably don't see the point in continuiing once you have miss a session or slack on your healthy eating after 3 solid weeks.

If life gets busy, stress goes up and you can't commit the same level so you switch off entrirley.

You have an on/off switch mentailty.

The guys who acheive their goals go through life with a dial -

When they s**t hits the fan, they dial things down but never switch off.

And at the first oppertunity the dial goes back up.

They're good at staying in the game.

Imperfect consistency.

Ben realised he weighed 95kg on his 40th birthday.

Not on his bathroom scales.

Before going on the big zip line in Wales.

They weigh you before you ride. And standing there in front of everyone, that number hit him differently.

Ben's 42 now. Railway surveyor, works nights, three stepdaughters, a dog called Ken, and a life that doesn't exactly lend itself to structured training...

He'd always gone to the gym and been a keen hiker.

Just never really had a plan.

Since working with me he's dropped 15kg, hit personal bests across multiple lifts, all but eliminated his sciatica, and strengthened a shoulder he'd previously dislocated playing rugby league.

But the thing Ben said he's most proud of?

Sticking with it.

Buying into the whole picture - not just the workouts, but the food, the habits, all of it.

Training and eating better is now a habit he says he can't drop.

That's the power of deploying a system that integrates into a normal guy's life full of work, kids off school, little setbacks and holidays - amazing progress still happens.

If any of this resonates and you want to know more, I wrote the free daily debrief to help guys make fat loss and strength gain easier - comment the word 'debrief' below 👇 and I'll send it over.

Why I got injured more in the gym than the front line:

Back when I was an infantry soldier, I got the least injuries of my life.

Of course I was young.

But a frontline tactical athlete is about as extreme a physical life as it gets.

In the infantry we didn't just run, ruck and lift.

We crawled.

Climbed ropes.

Carried kit and casualties on our shoulders.

Swung across obstacle courses.

Stuff that used the body in every angle it was designed to move in.

It was later - after becoming an Army PTI, getting into gym-based strength training - that the niggles started stacking up.

Shoulder pain.

Wrist issues.

Back pain.

Beat up all the time.

The focus was always on performance and strength.

Never on moving in ways that actually look after your joints.

Conventional gym training gets you strong - and that's important.

But it's a lot of straight lines.

And your body wasn't designed for straight lines only - it was designed to twist, reach, hinge, crawl.

Neglect those movements long enough and you get rusty.

My experience of accumulating so many injuries after the infantry is what sparked my hunger for better mobility training - It got me back to doing things I'd had to stop for years.

And it's helped a lot of the guys who come to work with me too.

They want to get in shape - but a bad knee, dodgy shoulder or knackered back has been the thing holding them back.

Or making them nervous about even starting.

Right now, I'm going deeper on this with Tom Morrison's mobility course for trainers.

Because I genuinely believe that getting in great shape shouldn't mean feeling beat up all the time.

It should mean being more resilient. Moving better. And being the dad who can still run about with his kids at 40 and 50, without his knees or back screaming at him.

That's what I'm building towards.

For me and for the guys I coach.

September to early December is one of the best windows of the year to push on with your fitness and physique.

The chaos of summer is behind you.

Kids back at school.

Less social commitments trying to pull you off track.

It's a real opportunity to get properly dialled in for 3 months before the festive season kicks off and you eat your weight in Quality Streets.

But a lot of guys will drag their heels through September.

Maybe not even get going until October or November.

Then they're off the wagon again in December, telling themselves they'll start fresh in January - whether that's with training, eating right, or both.

That cycle keeps them stuck in a body they don't like, year after year.

Don't be that guy.

Think ahead now.

Get a plan in place for your workouts. Pick a handful of simple food habits to build on - your protein target, portion sizing, daily targets to hit.

And put a date on the calendar.

Because getting in shape takes real intent.

Not luck.

And not by accident.

It's deciding on the outcome you want and aligning your daily actions with that decision.

That window is soon open, my man.

The guys who use it well will look and feel completely different by Christmas.

Joe is 47 years old, married with two kids aged 7 and 10, and works as a Further Education Lecturer in Glasgow.

Since working with me, he's lost 9kg, dropped 14cm off his waist, and built real muscle.

But those numbers aren't even the most interesting part of his story.

His son started coming to his circuit classes with him. His wife changed her food choices because of what she was watching Joe do at home. His focus and stress levels at work improved noticeably.

That's what getting in shape actually does when it's done properly. It doesn't just change the man. It changes the environment around him.

Excellent work Joe!

If you've been here a while you may have heard me talk about Jim -

An almost 50 year old off-shore site manager.

Who's went from struggling to tie his shoe's because of his belly, hating his reflection, and struggling with bad knees and shoulder pain...

To being the most jacked grandad-to-be on his site off-shore.

Every off-shore worker I've coached tells me how bad the food it out there.

Everything's dripping in grease.

Even the bloody vegetables.

(I mean c'mon, they've taken something that's supposed to be a health investment and made it a withdrawal lol)

But not Jim's place.

Not anymore.

Because Jim's been voicing his opinions with the chief cook.

Initially, there was push back about baking more foods rather than frying.

Because the cooks thought it was only Jim.

But a few others overheard.

And since they agreed, they all came together and wrote a list of suggestions, presented to the cooks.

So they kinda had to listen.

Then as if by magic, a lot more healthy options are available on this site for the past few months.

No wonder Jim's been getting even more ripped lately.

He's also got a growing crowed of younger workers involved in a daily push up challenge, starting with just him and a lad 20 years younger.

Now a few more have joined in.

And Jim is setting the standard for the number of push ups.

Why am I telling you this?

A few reasons.

Jim's a great example of how much can change for you in a year or two, no matter your age or starting point, if you decide to flip the script.

And, just like Jim's done in the workplace...

You can change the culture of health at home.

First of all by you leading the way.

And by having conversations with the wife or family, about what foods to stock up on, or keep less of in the house.

And at least how some of the meals are.

Of course those need to be respectful conversations, and from a place of asking for support.

Though if you get push-back or zero buy in?

Sometimes you need to be a bit if a trail-blazer and stand your ground with your own changes.

Jim did that at home also.

And now his wife and daughter have eventually followed his lead, actually wanting to eat better, because he's inspired them.

Just like he inspired other workers on site to speak up about food.

Who doesn't want to be that guy?

Or a better question, why can't it be you?

I believe it can.

Jim used be an active gym goer but after years of settling down, having kids, and progressing in his career off-shorre, he got less active and had accumulated some old niggles along the way...

Those niggles became so frustrating that they had stopped him getting back into a gym routines too many times.

So he got in touch through a mate who recomned he reach out to me.

Now?

He's in the best shape of his life whilst heading towards 50 and his body feels epic again - becuase I showed him how to train his joints to be mobile and move well, as well as getting stronger overall.

Combine that with a sensioble way of eating that he could stick to and get great results and here we are now.

Well done to Jim!

If you're going to use them, you need to understand how to offset the risks on both muscle loss and your health.

And if you want the results to stay after you come off? Start taking long term habits and behaviour change seriously.
