(481)

We provide first aid training for every need, including First Aid at Work courses for those who need to comply with health and safety requirements and a range of community based courses for members of the public which give the knowledge and confidence to deal with life's little - and big - emergencies. As the official first aid organisation for some of Scotland's most exciting events like T in the

Park, we are known for consistently delivering the highest standards of first aid cover and training. This site is not for booking event cover or first aid courses and is only monitored during office hours - not weekends.

First aid is a necessary skill that can make a real difference when emergencies happen. 💙

That’s why we’re proud to support the 30 Days, 30 Ways campaign, which takes place throughout September and encourages us all to take simple steps to become more prepared and build resilience for whatever life may bring.

From emergency planning to learning lifesaving first aid skills, every small step can help us feel more confident and ready to act.

👀 Look out throughout September for our preparedness tips, advice and resources!

Because being prepared starts before an emergency happens. 💙

We're sorry to hear the sad news that St Andrew's First Aid volunteer and former Commandant, George McLean MBE, passed away this week.

Our sincere condolences go to George's family, friends, and the many volunteers who had the privilege of working alongside him over the years.

George was our longest-serving volunteer, dedicating an incredible 70 years of service to St Andrew's First Aid after joining at just 17 years old. Throughout that time, he made an outstanding contribution, supporting countless members of the public and fellow volunteers. He was always ready to respond when needed, teach life-saving first aid skills, and generously share his knowledge and experience with others.

George's remarkable service was recognised when he was awarded the Voluntary Services Medal in 1989, followed by an MBE in 1992 for services to the community, including first aid.

Angela Simpson, Trainer Assessor (Volunteering) said: “He was always incredibly supportive and willing to help, no matter what was needed. He was such a lovely, kind and genuine person, and his warmth and kindness will be remembered and greatly missed.”

The outpouring of love and memories shared by volunteers, who knew George is a true reflection of the impact he had on so many people throughout his volunteering journey.

Morven remembered him as “a true gent and fabulous storyteller and trainer,” while Jillian shared: “So sad, George was the first aid trainer on my course when I joined.”

Tom also shared: “Many happy memories of a gracious gentleman and famed first aid trainer. He was a regular attender at the Corps Seminars and was always willing to have a chat. Condolences to his friends and family and his first aid colleagues.”

These comments are only a small glimpse of the many stories, memories and tributes that have been shared about George. Over seven decades of volunteering, he touched the lives of so many people, and his knowledge, kindness, humour and dedication to St Andrew's First Aid will be remembered by generations of volunteers.

Thank you for everything, George. You will be greatly missed. 💙

We had a very special visitor at our new office today… 🦇👀

With Batman filming around Glasgow, and only a street away from our office! It’s safe to say the city is officially turning into Gotham! How amazing!🖤🌃

Being a superhero is cool… but learning CPR and knowing how to save a life is even cooler. ❤️‍🩹🚑

Did you spot the amazing story with 8-year-old Poppy and Effie on BBC Breakfast this morning? When Effie started choking at lunch in school, Poppy knew what to do, and stepped in.

Recent research from our friends at St John Ambulance found that one in three Britons are unaware that choking can be fatal within minutes. (https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0xLm6C0)

But knowing the right first aid skills can save lives - and you can learn at any age. Here in Scotland, our Thistles groups are free, safe places for young people aged 5-10. Along with learning first aid skills, they build confidence and resilience.
