The full buck moon π a time to step into your own power and let go of identities that you have outgrown
Yesterday evening 29th July was the full buck moon. Called such because it's the time of year where the young male deer shed their antlers to make way for new velvety ones to grow.
And like the buck sheds his antlers it's a reminder that we too can let go of identities that we have outgrown.
For me this has been a year so far of dismantling identities.
Letting go of jobs, relationships, beliefs and even names (more on that later π). All of which once held such high importance to me now I release to the wind. It's not that these areas of my life suddenly lost importance. But over time they started to feel heavy, taking up more space than they should.Β
I realised with a growing feeling of discontent that the more we hold onto the less space there is for us to grow. I spent years labelling myself with identities in some form or another, telling myself that these identities were what made me belong, but in reality I always felt on the outside. These identities kept me trapped in a version of myself that was static and unmoving.Β
This year I crossed the threshold into my third decade on this earth and something shifted in me that made me decide to let go of pretty much everything that did not make me feel valued. Thus far I can't say it's been a particularly pleasant process, in fact it's been pretty uncomfortable and a little confusing.
I thought that maybe perhaps the buck who sheds his antlers feels the same way. If I meet him I will have to ask, and although I cant say for certain I get the sense that instead he has faith in this process and knows that on the other side new velvety antlers will grow in their place.
So while the process of letting go of old identities may feel uncomfortable and uncertain there's one thing I can share with you for sure.
Letting go of a whole lot of things has allowed me to slowly, somewhat shylystep into a sense of my own power.Β
And if I had never let go I would never have known what this feeling of growth and strength is and through some of the discomfort? That feeling of strength actually feels pretty great.
