Lying on the side is one of THE most EFFECTIVE positions for so many reasons. WHEN IT IS DONE RIGHT!
Too often therapists leave their client in an unsafe side position.
Once you know what the common pitfalls are and how to EASILY AND SAFELY roll your client into a supported position, then is it JUST THE BEST position for all of the following:
πͺπΏ SHOULDERS (great stretches! Easy to reach around the scapula to release traps and rhomboids)
πΊπΎ HIPS (access the ENTIRE pelvic area one side at a time)
ππ½ LOW BACK (fantastic psoas stretches achievable in side position, glut stretches, QL release, S-I joint balance)
π€ΈπΏββοΈ UPPER BACK (oh yes!!!!)
π¨πΏβ𦱠HEADACHES (tension and detox headaches both relieved with side of body stretches)
π«ΆπΎ HEARTACHES (best position for grief and trauma. Client is more likely to feel safe with the front body protected by their arms and legs, the back body is fully accessible, yet the client is not face down and can easily turn to look at me for reassuring eye contact or to see where I am. Also really great for those tearful moments of release, client can hide their face and use the tissue easily and privately.
π€°πΌ PREGNANCY - The best position, achievable and SAFE!
ππΎ Sometimes, I do a whole session in side position!
