Endometriosis can change the course of a young person’s life. 💛

Missing school. Struggling through exams. Saying no to plans. Learning to live around pain that you’ve been told is “normal”.

For too many young people, this becomes their reality long before they receive an answer.

Dr Gail Busby has personally witnessed the effects of endometriosis through her work with both adults and teenagers who live with the condition.

14 years of painful periods. 14 years of searching for answers. 💛

At just 26, she had already spent more than half her life dealing with painful, heavy periods and making repeated trips to the doctor.

After years of feeling unheard, she took matters into her own hands.

“What if I had waited until December?” 💛

Sometimes, it takes surgery to truly understand just how severe endometriosis can be.

In this personal story shared by .uk the speaker describes being told by a nurse just how widespread and severe their endometriosis was when surgeons opened them up.

What they hadn’t realised was the potential seriousness of their condition - including the risk of complications such as organ failure and sepsis.

And yet, despite being in a critical state in February 2025, their planned NHS appointment wasn’t scheduled until December 2025.

That raises an important question:

How do you wait months for care when your body is telling you something is seriously wrong?

If their condition had suddenly deteriorated, they may have ended up in A&E needing emergency treatment - addressing the immediate crisis rather than necessarily having the underlying endometriosis recognised.

This is why endometriosis needs to be taken seriously.

Severe symptoms shouldn’t be normalised.
Debilitating pain shouldn’t be dismissed.
And people shouldn’t have to reach crisis point before their symptoms are heard.
