Many parents think school screenings are the same as opticians’ eye tests, but that’s not true. A school screening is a basic test that checks whether your child has reduced vision in one or both eyes, and is not the same as a full eye test with an optometrist (or optician). 👁

Keep your eyes safe this Bonfire Night 👀

🎆 Bonfire Night eye safety tips 👀

Keep your eyes protected while enjoying the sparkle!

Wear protective eyewear 🥽
Especially if you're lighting fireworks or sparklers—safety goggles can prevent serious injuries.

Keep a safe distance 🚷
Watch fireworks from at least 25 metres away. Never lean over fireworks when lighting them.

Supervise children closely 👶
Kids love sparklers, but they burn at high temperatures. Make sure they wear gloves and keep them away from their face.

Avoid rubbing eyes 🧼
If smoke or debris gets in your eyes, rinse with clean water—don’t rub!

Be cautious with contact lenses 👁️
Smoke and heat can irritate eyes more if you're wearing contacts. Consider switching to glasses for the night.

Have first aid ready 🆘
Keep saline solution or clean water nearby in case of eye irritation or injury.

Seek medical help for any Injury 🚑
If an eye injury occurs, don’t delay—get professional help immediately.
