At Scot’s Pharmacy, we’re supporting the important reminder from NHS inform to regularly check your skin and know the signs of melanoma.

🔍 Remember the ABCDE checklist when checking moles or skin changes:

• Asymmetrical - 2 different halves and an irregular shape
• Border - edges that are ragged or uneven
• Colours - a mix of 2 or more colours
• Diameter - larger than 6mm
• Enlargement or elevation - changing in size, shape or texture over time

Early detection is vital. If you notice any suspicious changes, contact your GP promptly.

Feeling the heat?

Heat illness such as heatstroke happens in hot places, both indoors and outdoors. It can be caused by being active in a place that’s too hot.

Heat illness can range from mild to severe, and heat exhaustion and heatstroke are the most serious types.

Signs of heat exhaustion include:
• Tiredness or weakness
• Feeling faint or dizzy
• Headache
• Muscle cramps
• Feeling or being sick
• Heavy sweating
• Intense thirst
• Heat rash

If someone has symptoms of heat exhaustion:
• Move them to a cool or shaded place
• Remove unnecessary clothing - such as socks
• Encourage them to drink water or rehydration drinks
• Cool exposed skin with water and a fan

Most people start to feel better within 30 to 60 minutes if they're cooled down quickly. If symptoms don't improve, it could develop into heatstroke.

🚨 Call 999 immediately if someone has:
• A very high temperature
• Confusion or lack of coordination
• Difficulty breathing
• A seizure
• Loss of consciousness
• Symptoms that aren't improving after 30 minutes of cooling down

Remember to drink plenty of fluids, avoid becoming too hot, and keep an eye on older relatives, young children and anyone with existing health conditions during periods of warm weather.
