Today, we welcomed the British Heart Foundation, including , her team, and BHF guests, for a tour of our labs.

Following the tour, our staff and students took part in an open discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing medical science and research. It was a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas and highlight the important work being carried out across the sector.

Cardiac electrophysiology is highly regulated to maintain spatiotemporal homogeneity, which is fundamental to stable cardiac rhythm. Cardiac arrhythmias are complex and dynamic phenomena, often requiring interacting mechanisms to initiate and sustain them. Determining arrhythmia mechanisms requires not only an understanding of the ion channel behaviour which determines cardiomyocyte electrophysiology but also of tissue and organ-level factors which influence conduction and repolarization in the heart. Our research takes a multi-scale and multi-disciplinary approach, leveraging molecular, cellular and whole-heart studies to understand atrial and ventricular arrhythmia mechanisms.

The 2026 SCMH Walk Across the World Walking Challenge is complete and we have a winner. Congratulations to Sharon on winning this years challenge, with Aisling in second and Wendy in third. In the team competition, QT Cuties were this years winners with an amazing 3,654,755 steps! Well done to all our competitors!
