We have clinical academics & researchers based across Glasgow using state-of-the art facilities in the BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, West Medical & Davidson Buildings at Gilmorehill Campus & the sites in the Western Infirmary & Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Our research strengths have been integrated into substantial, well-resourced thematic programmes that build on the strengths of indiv

Cardiac electrophysiology is highly regulated to maintain spatiotemporal homogeneity, which is fundamental to stable cardiac rhythm. Cardiac arrhythmias are complex and dynamic phenomena, often requiring interacting mechanisms to initiate and sustain them. Determining arrhythmia mechanisms requires not only an understanding of the ion channel behaviour which determines cardiomyocyte electrophysiology but also of tissue and organ-level factors which influence conduction and repolarization in the heart. Our research takes a multi-scale and multi-disciplinary approach, leveraging molecular, cellular and whole-heart studies to understand atrial and ventricular arrhythmia mechanisms.
