If you needed a reminder.

Weights are your new best friend ๐Ÿงก

When you are low key a little bit scared of your child and her pal.

Gymnasts seem to enjoy the hard work.

Effort 10/10 as always ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Theres a new generation of girls who are growing up with Mums who love the gym.

They are learning to love their body for what it can do and not giving a hoot about being skinny.

Change is coming ๐Ÿ’ช

Five reasons to to deadlift as a woman over 40:

1. Stronger back

2. More rounded and defined glutes

3. Increased bone density

4. Lightening fast metabolism ๐Ÿ”ฅ

5. Improved mental health

Also the added bonus that it looks cool AF and makes you feel like a bad-ass

Find a weight you can lift with great technique for 8-10 reps.

If you dont feel done in by the last rep you didnt lift heavy enough.

I meant every bit of that.

I am SO incredibly proud of this little superhuman.

I also love smashing the barbell off the floor.

Another great session for gymnast Penny this morning.

A stubborn myth is that lifting weights stunts children's growth.

This is out-dated and simply untrue.

Strength training is very beneficial for kids as long as the loads are appropriate for their abilities and they are always supervised by a professional.

Children who have not reached puberty will do bodyweight leg exercises, core work, resistance bands, light weights, medicine ball exercises and explosive jumps when working with me.

Once they are into their teens and we have established excellent technique we can progress with heavier weights.

Always specific to their sport and fitness levels.

Ashleigh and Hannah working hard in their session last night.

Lots of big body movements including snatches, step ups, chest press, heavy kettlebell swings, landmine rows and slam balls.

A sweaty session hitting the full body ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿ”ฅ

The recent heat has definitely affected a lot of people in terms of sleep, food choices and motivation to train. Its hard work!

Both girls said they were NOT really up for this session but felt a million times better for coming.

You dont need to be feeling super motivated...just get yourself out the door.

Great work as always girls โญ๏ธ

Emma looking so strong in her upright rows this morning.

8kg dumb-bells each hand ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Over the past few months she has all but ditched the cardio to focus on strength training.

Her diet is on point and she is regimented with her tracking. Focusing on creating a small calorie deficit and hitting her protein target daily.

As a result her body is looking leaner than ever.

The goal is always to be strong, not skinny ๐Ÿ’ช

For gymnasts, a strong core provides power and control throughout every movement.

The core also protects the spine from injury during vaults, flips and twists.

It also helps them to maintain great posture and deliver excellent technique despite being fatigued.

Penny making these v-ups look like easy work in her session last night ๐Ÿ’ช
