⚖️ Finding Balance ⚖️

Today has been a lovely reminder of something we often talk about but don't always practice... balance.

This morning, I spent some time working, supporting clients and doing the things I love through The Awakened Mind.

This afternoon was reserved for something equally important—spending time with my dad. We celebrated Father's Day a little later than planned, but that made no difference. He chose the day, and he chose where we went for lunch (which meant I got the easy job of just turning up! 😄).

And the day isn't over yet. Tonight, we're off to support my young cousin and his friends from Downs Connections as they take to the stage for their show. I'm looking forward to seeing all their hard work, enthusiasm, and talent on display.

As I reflected on the day, it struck me how easy it is to become consumed by just one area of our lives.

Work can take over. Family commitments can take over. Hobbies can take over. Even our wellbeing practices can sometimes become another thing to tick off the list.
But true wellbeing often comes from creating balance.

Making time for work, family, community, rest, and the things that bring us joy.
Balance doesn't mean every area of life gets equal time every day. It means being intentional about where we place our attention and recognising that a fulfilling life is made up of many different pieces.

Today has been a blend of work, family time, and supporting others—three things that matter deeply to me.

✨ What has brought balance to your life this week?

📸 Supporting People to Follow Their Interests

At The Awakened Mind, we're passionate about helping our clients achieve their goals—not just in mindfulness, but in the things that genuinely interest and inspire them.

Recently, one of our young clients expressed an interest in photography. Rather than simply talking about it, we wanted to help turn that interest into an opportunity.

Today, they had the chance to begin exploring photography alongside someone who actually knows what they're talking about (which is definitely not me! 😄).

It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to try something new. We both learned a lot, and it was a great reminder of how powerful it can be when someone is given the encouragement and support to pursue an interest they're passionate about.

Sometimes growth happens through mindfulness.

Sometimes it happens through learning a new skill.

And sometimes it starts with someone saying, "I'd like to give that a try."

I'm excited to see where this journey leads over the coming weeks and to watch their confidence grow along the way.

After all, helping people discover what lights them up is one of the best parts of what we do. ✨

Have you ever taken up a hobby or interest that surprised you?

💙 Why This Work Matters 💙

Today, I met a young person who reminded me why I'm so passionate about the work I do.
Without sharing any personal details, it was a conversation that highlighted something we can sometimes forget—many people are carrying challenges that aren't always visible to the outside world.

As I listened, I found myself reflecting on some of my own experiences growing up and how those experiences have shaped who I am today.

Life doesn't always follow the path we would choose. We all face obstacles, setbacks, and moments that test us. But with the right support, encouragement, and someone who genuinely listens, it's amazing what can be overcome.

One thing I've learned over the years is that people don't always need someone to fix their problems. Sometimes they simply need someone to believe in them, to listen without judgement, and to remind them of the strengths they may not yet see in themselves.
It's a privilege to be able to support others on their journey, and I'm grateful every day for the opportunity to do so.

You never know what someone is carrying, so be kind. A few encouraging words can make a bigger difference than you might ever realise. 💙

🚆
Yesterday, I was travelling on the train and noticed something that made me smile.
People were talking.

Not scrolling. Not staring at a screen. Not disappearing into the endless rabbit hole of social media.

They were having actual conversations.
A chat about the weather. A laugh between friends. A quick exchange between strangers. Nothing groundbreaking, but it felt refreshing.
It reminded me how much we all crave connection, even in the smallest of ways.

In a world where it's so easy to have our heads buried in our phones, there was something lovely about seeing people simply being present with each other.

Don't get me wrong—I enjoy my phone as much as the next person! But yesterday was a gentle reminder that sometimes the best moments aren't found on a screen.
They're right there in front of us.

Have you noticed more people talking lately, or was this just a lucky train carriage? 🚂😊
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

🎈 A Balloon, a Breath, and a Powerful Reminder 🎈

Today, I had the pleasure of working with someone with learning disabilities as we explored something we all have with us every moment of every day...
Our breath.

We talked about how our breathing is always there, 24 hours a day, yet most of the time we barely notice it. Through some fun and interactive mindfulness activities, we practised paying attention to our breath and what it feels like in our bodies.

As part of the session, I invited them to imagine a balloon. It could be any size, shape, or colour they wanted.

Their answer?
"A yellow balloon tied up in the shape of a dog." 🐕

As we explored it further, they shared that sometimes they feel a bit like that balloon—tied up with so many things to do and so much going on.

What a wonderful insight!

It reminded me that mindfulness isn't about having all the answers or making difficult feelings disappear. Sometimes it's simply about noticing how we're feeling and giving ourselves a moment to pause.

Our breath can be a powerful anchor when life feels busy, overwhelming, or when our thoughts have us feeling all tied up inside.

The next time you find yourself rushing from one thing to the next, take a moment to pause and notice your breathing.
No need to change it. No need to fix anything.
Just notice.

✨ What shape would your balloon be today?
I'd love to hear your answers in the comments.

🌿 Learning from a Slower Pace of Life 🌿

I've recently returned home after two wonderful weeks in Hersonissos, Crete, and one thing that really stood out to me wasn't the sunshine or the beautiful scenery—it was the pace of life.

Life simply moves slower there.

You're not rushing from one thing to the next.

Meals are enjoyed, conversations aren't squeezed between notifications, and people seem genuinely present with their surroundings and with each other.

There's no expectation that everything should happen instantly.

And it got me thinking...
How often do we race through our own lives?
Always thinking about the next task, the next appointment, the next message, the next thing on the to-do list.

So many of us are living at 100 mph, yet we're wondering why we feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected.

Mindfulness isn't about stopping life or escaping reality.

It's about learning to slow down enough to actually experience it.
To notice the warmth of your morning coffee. To enjoy a conversation without checking your phone. To appreciate the sights, sounds, and moments that would otherwise pass us by unnoticed.

My time in Crete was a beautiful reminder that life doesn't always need to be rushed.
Sometimes slowing down is exactly what we need to move forward with greater clarity, calm, and purpose.

✨ What is one thing you could slow down and truly enjoy today?

If you'd like to explore mindfulness and discover simple ways to bring more calm, balance, and presence into your daily life, I'd love to support you on your journey.
