During pregnancy, we recommend taking up all vaccines that are offered, to protect both you and your baby from serious illness.
You will be offered the whooping cough vaccine from week 16 of your pregnancy. Even if you have had this before, it is important to have the vaccine every time you’re pregnant, to give your baby the best protection in the first few weeks of their life.

Getting the RSV vaccination during pregnancy may reduce your baby’s chance of being hospitalised with RSV by up to 80%. The RSV vaccine is safe during pregnancy and can protect your infant from becoming seriously ill from RSV.
The RSV vaccine is offered from 28 weeks. During pregnancy, you are at greater risk of serious complications from the flu. We recommended that you vaccinated against flu every time you are pregnant. The Flu vaccine can be given at any stage during
pregnancy, during the months of September to March.

The best way to protect you and your baby from serious disease and illness is to get the recommended vaccines at the right time.

Meningitis can develop quickly. It is important to know the signs and symptoms to look out for and what you should do if you think you or someone you know might have meningitis.

Symptoms develop suddenly and can include:

• temperature (fever)
• being sick
• headache
• blotchy rash that doesn’t fade when a
glass is rolled over it
• stiff neck
• dislike of bright lights
• drowsiness or unresponsiveness
• seizures (fits)

These symptoms can appear in any order, and some may not appear. Even if you have been vaccinated, it is important
to be aware of the signs and symptoms and seek help urgently if you are concerned for yourself or someone else.

Before you head off to a festival, football match or any other busy events this summer, make sure you are up to date with your vaccines and catch up on any other missed vaccines if you need to.

Transmission of meningococcal bacteria can lead to meningitis and/or sepsis. Transmission can occur through close and prolonged
contact for example, living in the same household or intimate contact such as kissing or sharing drinks, ci******es or vapes.

A one-off urgent time-limited offer of MenB vaccination for people at highest risk will get underway across summer. The programme will aim to vaccinate eligible individuals before the start of the 2026/27 academic year and the peak season for MenB in the autumn. Cohorts will include some older teenagers and students under 25 years of age who are entering higher educational settings
for the first time.

Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly. It can cause life-threatening blood poisoning (septicaemia) and result in permanent damage to the brain or nerves.

In line with other practices across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, we are still experiencing significant difficulties as a result of the IT change.

Our IT systems are slower as a result of this change - This is out with our control and may be permanent.

It means that every task we do now takes longer than it used to. We cannot improve this. This has had a significant impact on how quickly our staff can complete each task and has reduced the number of tasks that our staff are able to do on any given day.

This has had an impact on the number of appointments we are able to offer and the speed at which we can process things like prescription requests. Unfortunately we expect the impact to continue until after the Summer holidays.

We are very grateful to all our patients for being kind and patient with our staff as we do our very best with the system that we have been given.

Thank you

Don’t forget the three P’s this summer: Pack, Plan, Protect
Summer Health Campaign 2026

Riverview Medical Centre supports NHS 24’s latest public health campaign, encouraging people across Scotland to take simple steps to stay well during the warmer months. From
remembering essential medications to protecting against sun exposure and insect bites, the campaign highlights NHS inform as the go-to source for trusted summer health advice.

Dr Siama Latif, Associate Medical Director at NHS 24, said:
“Summer is a time when many of us are travelling, spending more time outdoors, and enjoying a break from our usual routines. While that’s great for wellbeing, it can also bring an increased risk of issues such as sunburn, insect bites, allergies and minor injuries.
“We are asking everyone to pack, plan, and protect this summer. By remembering to pack essential medications, planning ahead with simple remedies at home, and protecting yourself and others in the sun, you can avoid many common summer health problems.”

As well as a dedicated summer advice page, NHS inform provides symptom checkers offering quick guidance for a range of common conditions. These tools can help people to safely manage symptoms at home or understand when to seek further care.

Dr Latif added:
“NHS inform is available 24 hours a day, providing reliable, NHS-approved advice whenever you need it. It’s regularly reviewed by healthcare professionals, so you can trust the information you’re using. Taking a few simple steps to pack, plan and protect can help
you stay well and enjoy your summer.”

IT'S SUMMER! (we think 🤔)
Whether you're chasing the sunshine or dodging the showers, a little prep for your health goes a long way.
Remember to PACK, PLAN, PROTECT.
🧳 PACK – Don’t forget your repeat prescription medicines when travelling away from home, even if you’re only away for a night or two.
🧴 PLAN – Keep remedies at home to deal with common issues like bites and stings, sunburn, or hay fever.
☀️ PROTECT – Stay safe in spells of hot weather by seeking shade, wearing sun protection, and keeping an eye on vulnerable people such as young children, older adults, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
