🛒 Slimming World New Members & Anyone Starting a Reset: Your First Month Store Cupboard Essentials
Starting your Slimming World journey as a new member is so exciting, and if you’ve had a few hiccups and are planning a reset of your journey, having the right basics at home makes it so much easier to cook tasty, filling meals every day without stress. Here is your simple guide to exactly what to stock up on, all following the latest plan rules.
What you need to know first: Free Foods are foods you can eat as much as you like, with no weighing or counting needed. Healthy Extras are measured daily portions to make sure you get all the fibre and calcium your body needs. Syns are for treats or extra ingredients, and you can enjoy up to 15 per day. Top tip: Always choose tinned fish and goods in brine, spring water or tomato sauce rather than oil to keep Syns low or free.
Tins, packets and pulses – all Free: chopped tomatoes, tomato purée, tuna, sardines and mackerel, red kidney beans, cannellini beans, chickpeas, reduced sugar and salt baked beans, red or green lentils, sweetcorn, low salt stock cubes or pots, capers and pickled onions.
Carbohydrates: dried pasta, basmati or long grain rice, brown rice, couscous, quinoa and plain rice noodles. Daily Healthy Extra B options: porridge oats (40g), wholemeal bread (2 medium slices), wholemeal pittas or wraps.
Flavourings and sauces – almost all Free: low calorie cooking spray, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, paprika, ground coriander, chilli flakes, mixed herbs, oregano, turmeric, dried basil, parsley, thyme and rosemary, light soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, white or red wine vinegar, lemon juice, all types of mustard, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and sugar free sweetener.
Daily Healthy Extras – measure these portions carefully: Healthy Extra A (Calcium) is 350ml semi skimmed milk, 45g reduced fat cheddar, or the stated allowance for fat free soft cheese or calcium fortified unsweetened plant milk. Healthy Extra B (Fibre) is one portion chosen from the carbohydrates list above. Healthy Fats are small measured portions only, so check the official app or guide for exact amounts.
Fridge and freezer staples: eggs, fat free natural yogurt, quark, onions, garlic, fresh ginger, potatoes, sweet potatoes, frozen mixed vegetables, peas, spinach, broccoli, lean chicken breast, turkey mince and 5% fat beef mince.
Top tips for your fresh start: start simple – get comfortable with 5 or 6 easy meals before buying lots of new ingredients. Tinned tomatoes and pulses are your best friends to turn plain meals into something hearty and filling. Swap oil for low calorie cooking spray to keep meals Syn free. Stick to your Healthy Extra amounts, and if you are ever unsure about Syn values always check the official Slimming World app or group guide.
