🌾 Late Summer is a time for coming back to yourself…

Summer can be busy. More socialising. More plans. Longer days. More going out, doing and generally trying to make the most of the lighter months.

And then suddenly you notice…

You’re tired.
Your body feels a little heavier.
Your digestion isn’t quite as settled.
You’re craving routine again.
And perhaps you don’t actually want to keep going at the same pace.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve “lost your energy”.

Sometimes your body is simply responding to a change in season and a change in what it needs.

In Chinese medicine, Late Summer is associated with the Earth element - grounding, nourishment, digestion and finding a sense of stability.

It’s a lovely reminder that health isn’t about maintaining the same pace all year round.

Sometimes we need to expand.

Sometimes we need to do.

And sometimes we need to pause, digest and replenish. 🌾

So if you’re finding yourself wanting a little more quiet, routine or grounding at the moment…

Maybe listen to that.

Your body knows exactly what it needs 🌿

🏃 “I was fine… until I stopped.”

Have you ever noticed that you keep going through a busy period, only to feel exhausted, emotional or unwell once things finally slow down?

When we’re under pressure, our bodies are remarkably good at helping us push through. Stress hormones can temporarily keep us alert and focused, even when we’re running on empty.

But eventually, the body asks for repayment. That “crash” afterwards might look like:
😴 Extreme tiredness
😶‍🌫️ Brain fog
😖 Aches and tension
😰 Feeling emotionally overwhelmed
🤒 Getting run down more easily

This isn’t weakness, it’s often a sign that your body has been working hard to keep up with prolonged demands.

Rest isn’t the opposite of productivity. It’s part of it 🌿

🤔 There are plenty of misconceptions about acupuncture, and they often stop people from trying a treatment that could genuinely help. Let’s clear up a few of the most common:

❌ “The needles hurt.”
✅ Acupuncture needles are extremely fine – around the thickness of a human hair - much thinner than those used for injections or blood tests. Most people are surprised by how little they feel, with many describing sensations such as warmth, heaviness or tingling rather than pain.

❌ “Acupuncture is only for pain.”
✅ Although it’s well known for helping with aches and pains, acupuncture is also commonly used to support people experiencing stress, headaches, sleep difficulties, digestive symptoms, hormonal changes and much more. Every treatment is tailored to the individual.

❌ “One treatment will fix everything.”
✅ Some people notice changes after their first session, but lasting improvements often develop over a course of treatment. Acupuncture works by encouraging the body to restore balance over time, which is why treatments are usually cumulative.

❌ “You have to believe in it.”
✅ No belief is required. Acupuncture is a physical treatment involving the stimulation of specific points on the body. Whether you’re curious, sceptical or somewhere in between, you’re still welcome to explore whether it’s right for you.

❌ “There’s no evidence behind it.”
✅ Research into acupuncture continues to grow, with evidence supporting its use for a number of health conditions. As with many healthcare approaches, the strength of evidence varies depending on the condition being treated, and research is ongoing.

If you’ve ever been curious about acupuncture but something has held you back, you’re not alone. Asking questions is always welcome, and understanding your options is an important part of making informed decisions about your health. 🌿

🔋 Stress doesn’t always arrive as one dramatic event.

More often, it builds quietly over weeks, months or even years as a culmination of poor sleep, work pressures, caring responsibilities, difficult experiences, endless to-do lists and the expectation that we should simply “keep going”.

Many people don’t realise how much they’re carrying until their body starts waving red flags such as:

⚡ Irritability or feeling overwhelmed
😴 Exhaustion that rest doesn’t seem to fix
💭 Difficulty concentrating
😖 Increased tension or pain
🍃 Changes in digestion or appetite

We often wait until we’re completely drained before giving ourselves permission to slow down.

Rest and recovery aren’t rewards for reaching breaking point, they’re essential parts of staying well 🌿

📋 No two people walk into the clinic with exactly the same story.
Even when people share the same diagnosis or symptoms, the factors contributing to their health concerns can be very different.

During an appointment, I look at the bigger picture, including:

💬 Your main symptoms and how they affect daily life
😴 Sleep, energy levels and stress
🍽️ Digestion and appetite
🏃 Lifestyle and activity levels
🩺 Medical history and current treatments
✨ Any patterns or triggers you’ve noticed

Chinese Medicine takes an individualised approach, which means treatment is tailored to the person sitting in front of me, not simply the condition written on a piece of paper.

Sometimes, understanding what somebody needs starts with taking the time to listen 🌿

😖 Pain, fatigue and tension are often treated as separate problems, but our bodies don’t work in isolated compartments.

When we’re under stress, dealing with poor sleep, recovering from illness or pushing ourselves beyond our limits, it can affect multiple systems at once.

You might notice:
⚡ Aching muscles or headaches
😴 Feeling exhausted despite resting
😶‍🌫️ Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
👤 Tight shoulders, jaw tension or back pain
🧠 Changes in mood or motivation

These experiences aren’t necessarily signs that your body is “failing”. Sometimes, they’re signals that your nervous system and energy reserves are under pressure.

Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with me?”, it can be helpful to ask, “What might my body be trying to tell me?”

Understanding the bigger picture is often the first step towards supporting it 🌿

❓“How many acupuncture sessions will I need?”

This is one of the questions I’m asked most often, and the honest answer is: it depends.
Acupuncture is rarely about a single treatment “fixing” everything overnight. Much like going to the gym or attending physiotherapy, the effects of treatment are often cumulative, building over time as the body responds and adapts.

Many factors can influence how quickly someone notices changes, including:
✨ How long symptoms have been present
✨ Stress levels and lifestyle
✨ Sleep and energy levels
✨ Overall health and wellbeing
✨ How frequently treatment takes place

Some people notice a difference after one session, while others find that improvements happen more gradually.
The goal isn’t simply to suppress symptoms but to support the body’s natural ability to regulate and heal.

Healing is rarely linear, and small changes can add up to something significant over time 🌿

🧠 Stress isn’t “just in your head”.

Your nervous system is constantly scanning the world around you - deciding whether you feel safe, challenged or overwhelmed. When stress becomes chronic, the body can begin to stay stuck in “survival mode”, even long after the original trigger has passed.

You might notice:
⚡ Feeling wired but exhausted
😴 Difficulty sleeping or switching off
💭 Racing thoughts or brain fog
💓 Palpitations or shallow breathing
😖 Increased muscle tension or pain
🍃 Digestive changes

The nervous system has two important modes:

🟢 ℝ𝕖𝕤𝕥 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕖 – when the body can heal, digest, recover and conserve energy.

🔴 𝔽𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥, 𝕗𝕝𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥, 𝕗𝕣𝕖𝕖𝕫𝕖 𝕠𝕣 𝕗𝕒𝕨𝕟 – designed to protect us during times of danger or stress.

Modern life often keeps us spending far more time in survival mode than our bodies were designed for.

Alongside lifestyle changes and medical care where appropriate, treatments such as acupuncture can help encourage relaxation and support the body’s natural return to balance.

Small, consistent moments of rest matter more than we often realise 🌿

⚖️ Hormones influence so much more than our monthly cycle.

They can affect our energy levels, sleep, mood, digestion, skin, concentration, pain levels and overall sense of wellbeing. When things feel “off”, it’s often a sign that the body is working hard to restore balance.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, hormonal health isn’t viewed in isolation. Instead, we look at the bigger picture: your symptoms, lifestyle, stress levels, sleep, digestion and menstrual history to understand what may be contributing to the imbalance.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine aim to support the body’s natural regulatory processes and may help to:
✨ Encourage relaxation and nervous system balance
✨ Support healthy sleep patterns
✨ Ease tension and discomfort
✨ Promote emotional wellbeing
✨ Complement medical care for hormone-related concerns

Whether you’re navigating PMS, PMDD, painful periods, (peri)menopause or simply feel that something isn’t quite right, treatment is always tailored to you as an individual.

Every body is different, and healing rarely follows a one-size-fits-all approach 🌿

🌿 How integrated care works

Sometimes you only need one approach. Other times, it’s the combination that makes the difference.

No two people are exactly the same, so treatment shouldn’t be either.

Rather than focusing on one symptom in isolation, I consider the wider picture - how different parts of your health may be interacting and what your body needs at that point in time.

When clinically appropriate, treatment may include a combination of:
📍 Acupuncture
🤲 Massage & bodywork techniques
🌿 Chinese Medicine principles

These photos show one example of how different approaches can be combined within a treatment session.

Integrated care isn’t about doing more. It’s about choosing the most appropriate approach to support you.

Whole person. Individual care. Lasting change. 💜
