James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is hosting its Annual General Meeting between 6pm and 7pm on Monday 14 September, in the Lecture Theatre in the Burrage Centre, on our hospital site.
The AGM will include an update on the hospital’s performance over the 2025-26 financial year, as well as information about the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group.
Before the AGM, the hospital will be hosting its annual ‘Improving Together’ event, starting at 4pm in the Burrage Centre. The event will be a celebration of all the developments and improvements for both patients and staff that have taken place at our hospital over the last year, and will feature a range of stalls, information and activities, hosted by staff and teams at the hospital.

If you’ve been to our hospital today you may have noticed that we currently have a variety of arts and crafts on display in our main foyer, with local artists exhibiting a variety of work for sale.
The Arts and Craft Pop Up at the Paget will run for three days of this week – today, Tuesday 18, tomorrow, Wednesday 19, and Thursday, 20 August – before returning next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 25, 26 and 27 August.
If you’d like to take a look at the beautiful artworks, and perhaps purchase, then you are welcome to browse and buy between 10am and 4pm on any of these days.

Gorleston’s Pavilion Theatre is the venue for a ‘Dusty Miller and Friends’ variety show on Sunday, 23 August.
The show invites you to ‘take a seat at the Pictures’ for an evening of song, dance and comedy featuring a host of top local talent including Darcey Simms, Kayleigh Poacher, Jamie Harrison, Paul Dixon, Natasha Staffieri, Joe Reed, Jack Ollett, Hannah & George, the June Glennie Dancers and the James Paget hospital choir. Directed by Julie Shiret, the evening of entertainment will start at the Theatre at 7pm, with proceeds going to the Gorleston Pavilion Trust.

The next meeting of our Migraine Peer Support Group will be held on Thursday, 20 August, and if you have migraines you are invited to attend.
The Peer Support Group meets on the third Thursday of the month between 6pm and 8pm, in the Louise Hamilton Centre on our hospital site, and gives you the opportunity to have a chat with others who understand that migraine is more than ‘just a headache’ and to learn more about treatments and things that may help you.
Neurology Specialist Nurse Sarah Mann will also be in attendance for this meeting, so you are welcome to ask questions and get advice from her.
You may have found that you have been experiencing migraines recently due to the heat and pressure changes. Things such as high humidity, sun glare and dry conditions can act as triggers for some people. Dedicated runner Alice Hornby has just started training for the premier distance race on the calendar: the London Marathon.
Alice, who works as a staff nurse on Ward 17, has been running for four years – and has completed several half-marathons.
Now, she is looking forward to the challenge of the full 26.2 miles on the most iconic course in the world.
Her chosen charity is the Children and Young People’s Cancer Association, for which she hopes to raise more than £2000.
“In my role as a chemotherapy nurse, I see the impact of cancer every day. My patient’s courage and bravery during treatment never fails to inspire me, and it is for them that I will be running the marathon,” she said.
Already, Alice has started training along the beaches near Hemsby in preparation for the marathon, which takes place on 24 April next year.
She hopes to complete the course in under four hours – but admits that the time is secondary to the experience.
“It’s the marathon that everyone wants to run – and the most amazing opportunity,” said Alice. “I can’t wait to soak up the atmosphere and the amazing support of the crowds.”

The next meeting of our Robins group – a support group for anyone who has lost a loved one – will be held in the Louise Hamilton Centre, on our hospital site, on Monday, 17 August.
The group meets each month in the Centre, and offers a space for you to talk and remember a loved one.
The event, between 1pm and 2pm on Monday, is for anyone who has been bereaved who would like some support.
It is organised by our Cancer Care Navigators but you do not have to have lost someone to cancer – anyone who has lost a close loved one is welcome.

If you have an outpatient appointment at our hospital, and need to get in touch with our team, there is now a new way that you can do this via a form on our website.
The form gives another option for you to contact us, so if you’ve had difficulty calling us, or prefer to use an online method rather than phoning, then you can use this.
To use the form you’ll need to have some information to hand including;
• Patient’s full name
• Patient’s date of birth
• Hospital number or NHS number (if known)
• Appointment details

This is in addition to the option to reply to an appointment reminder text message. Our Skin Cancer Nurse-Led Support Group celebrated its second anniversary with a special buffet, quiz and raffle on Friday, 7 August.
Dermatology Support Nurses Helen and Leanne and our Cancer Care Navigators hosted the event, in the Louise Hamilton Centre, with bunting decorations and delicious scones and cakes providing a summer afternoon tea party feel to the event.
Those attending the support group meeting also enjoyed taking part in the quiz, while the raffle gave an opportunity to pick up some nice prizes.
We would like to thank Margo’s and the James Paget Aubergine restaurant team for the tasty scones, Dermatology Support Nurse Lucy for the cupcakes and thank Norfolk Skin Clinic, Morrisons at Bradwell, and Dunelm and Asda in Lowestoft for their generosity in donating raffle prizes. Thank you also to the James Paget Hospital Charity who also supported the event and to Cancer Care Navigators Sarah and Julie, and Bernie.
The support group regularly meet in the Centre, on our hospital site, on the first Friday of the month between 2.15pm and 3.30pm and anyone with a skin cancer diagnosis is welcome to attend. The next meeting will be on Friday 4 September.

It was a fond farewell to two of our amazing volunteers on Thursday, 6 August, as our front desk team celebrated the huge contribution made by local couple Sue and Geoff Wood.
The husband and wife team, in the centre of our photo below, have volunteered at our hospital since 2018 and in this time have helped thousands of visitors to find their way around as well as performing a variety of other tasks to support staff and patients.
After eight years of service they are now moving to Somerset but, before they left, our team said a huge thank you for their hard work.
In addition to being familiar faces at our front reception desk where they greeted visitors and patients coming into the hospital, they also carried out work to support patient feedback via our Friends and Family Test and administration work at reception. They continued to volunteer with us throughout the Covid pandemic and also supported our vaccination clinics, helping to welcome and assist those coming into the Louise Hamilton Centre.
As a small token of our gratitude for all their work, Sue and Geoff were presented with a plant for their new garden, cards and a collection as well as other goodies on Thursday.
We’d like to thank them for everything, and wish them well with their new life in Somerset.
