Have you been invited for an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening? It’s important to attend πŸ’™

AAA screening is offered to men in England during the year they turn 65. The screening test looks for a swelling (aneurysm) in the aorta, the main blood vessel that carries blood from your heart to the rest of your body 🩺

An abdominal aortic aneurysm often causes no symptoms, which means many people don't know they have one. If an aneurysm grows and bursts, it can be life-threatening, which is why early detection is so important ⚠️

The screening itself is quick, painless and similar to an ultrasound scan. Most appointments take less than 10 minutes and can provide reassurance or help identify any problems early πŸ‘

You'll usually only need to be screened once, unless an aneurysm is found and requires monitoring πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈ

If you've received an invitation, don't ignore it. Attending your appointment could save your life πŸ’™

Reasonable adjustments can help make healthcare more accessible for people with disabilities, learning disabilities, autism, sensory impairments, dementia and other long-term conditions πŸ’™

The NHS has a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments so that everyone can access healthcare services as easily as possible. These adjustments are tailored to the individual and can make a big difference to someone's experience and wellbeing. 🌟

Examples of reasonable adjustments may include:
βœ… Longer appointment times
βœ… Easy Read information
βœ… Communication support or interpreters
βœ… A quiet place to wait
βœ… Accessible appointment letters
βœ… Support from a carer, family member or advocate
βœ… Flexible appointment times

If you think you may benefit from reasonable adjustments, speak to your GP practice or healthcare provider. Letting staff know about your needs can help ensure you receive the right support whenever you access NHS services. πŸ’™

Impetigo is a common and highly contagious skin infection that mainly affects babies and young children πŸ‘ΆπŸ’™

It usually starts with red sores or blisters that burst and leave crusty golden-brown patches on the skin. While impetigo is not usually serious, it can spread easily through close contact, towels, bedding and shared items ⚠️

If you think your child may have impetigo, help is available through the NHS Pharmacy First service. A pharmacist can assess symptoms and, where appropriate, provide treatment without the need for a GP appointment πŸ’Š

Signs of impetigo can include:
πŸ”Ή Red sores or blisters
πŸ”Ή Itchy patches of skin
πŸ”Ή Honey-coloured crusts forming over sores
πŸ”Ή Sores commonly around the nose, mouth, hands or body

To help prevent the spread:
🧼 Wash hands regularly
🧼 Avoid sharing towels, bedding or clothing
🧼 Keep affected areas clean
🧼 Follow treatment advice from your pharmacist

If you receive an NHS screening invitation, don't ignore it – book it πŸ’™πŸ“©

NHS screening programmes are designed to identify potential health problems before symptoms appear, giving you the best chance of receiving treatment early if needed 🩺

Screening is offered to different groups of people at different stages of life and can help detect conditions such as certain cancers, abdominal aortic aneurysms and other health concerns before they become more serious ⚠️

Most screening tests are quick, simple and free through the NHS πŸ‘

Even if you feel well, it's important to attend when invited. Screening can provide reassurance or help identify problems early, when treatment is often more effective πŸ’™

If you've received a screening invitation, take a few moments to book your appointment. It could make a significant difference to your health and wellbeing 🌟

Wondering when your baby might arrive? πŸ‘ΆπŸ’™

The NHS Due Date Calculator can give you an estimated due date based on the first day of your last menstrual period πŸ“…

While only a small number of babies arrive exactly on their due date, knowing your estimated due date can help you plan for appointments, prepare for your baby's arrival and understand your pregnancy timeline better πŸ‘

Your due date may be adjusted later based on your dating scan, which usually takes place between 10 and 14 weeks of pregnancy 🩺

Remember, every pregnancy is different and babies can arrive before or after their estimated due date πŸ’«

If you think you may be pregnant or have questions about your pregnancy, speak to your midwife, GP or maternity team for support πŸ’™

Try the NHS Due Date Calculator here:

As temperatures rise, it's important to know the signs of hyperthermia and heat-related illness β˜€οΈπŸ’™

Hyperthermia happens when your body becomes too hot and struggles to cool itself down. If left untreated, it can become serious and may require medical attention ⚠️

Signs to watch for include:
β€’ Dizziness or feeling light-headed 😡
β€’ Muscle cramps πŸ’ͺ
β€’ Swollen feet or ankles πŸ‘£
β€’ Feeling sick, weak or unusually tired πŸ€’
β€’ A rapid pulse or fast heartbeat ❀️

You can help reduce your risk by:
β€’ Drinking plenty of water throughout the day πŸ’§
β€’ Staying in the shade where possible 🌳
β€’ Avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day β˜€οΈ
β€’ Wearing loose, light-coloured clothing πŸ‘•
β€’ Checking on older relatives, neighbours and vulnerable people πŸ‘₯

Babies, young children, older adults and people with long-term health conditions can be particularly vulnerable during hot weather 🌑️

If symptoms become severe, worsen, or do not improve, seek medical advice promptly πŸ©ΊπŸ’™
