✅ Standard wheelchairs can be accommodated within the clinic.
✅ Free parking is available in the School/Village Hall car park.
✅ Roadside parking is available directly outside the clinic, which may be particularly helpful for Blue Badge holders and those with reduced mobility.

👄 Lipreading Awareness Week 👄

This week is Lipreading Awareness Week, and as Directors of The Ear Clinic, it's something that means a great deal to us personally.

Many people may not know that we grew up with a Dad who is profoundly deaf. From an early age, we were surrounded by the deaf community, learning first-hand about the importance of communication, inclusion and understanding. Deafness and hearing loss have always been part of our lives, not just our careers.

Watching our dad navigate everyday situations taught us how exhausting and isolating communication can sometimes become when people are unaware of the barriers faced by those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Simple things such as covering your mouth while speaking, talking from another room, poor lighting, or not facing someone directly can make conversations incredibly difficult.

Lipreading is an invaluable skill for many people with hearing loss. It helps bridge communication gaps, provides confidence, independence, and helps people stay connected with family, friends and their communities. Yet many people don't realise how much concentration and effort lipreading requires, or how a little awareness from others can make such a huge difference.

At The Ear Clinic, we are passionate about creating an environment where deaf and hard of hearing people feel understood, respected and supported. Our personal connection to hearing loss helps us appreciate that every individual has their own communication needs, whether that involves lipreading, hearing aids, assistive technology, British Sign Language, or a combination of approaches.

We want our patients to know that when they walk through our doors, they're not just receiving professional ear care. They're being welcomed by a team that genuinely understands the impact hearing loss can have on everyday life.

👂 Blocked ears? It could be ear wax!

Ear wax is completely natural — it helps protect your ears from dirt, dust and bacteria. But when too much builds up, it can cause muffled hearing, a blocked feeling, earache, tinnitus (ringing or buzzing) and sometimes dizziness.

At The Ear Clinic Cornwall, we use microsuction — a modern method of wax removal performed under direct vision. Our team can assess your ear health, check for wax and carry out removal where needed. A hearing screening is also available following wax removal.
