Jacqueline Samuel Psychotherapy

Jacqueline Samuel Psychotherapy Confidential online psychotherapy & counselling The people I see experience a wide range of concerns that have led them to seek therapy. Do feel free to ask me.

My name is Jacqueline and I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist and hypnotherapist with over 20 years of experience. Many seek therapy because they:

* feel stuck in repetitive patterns
* struggle with depression or anxiety
* have difficulties with significant relationships
* are questioning their sexuality
* are considering leaving a religious or faith based group
* are grieving a significant loss
* have experienced a trauma or traumatic events
* are adapting to a lifecycle change like leaving home, marriage, children, or illness
* have identity or self-definition questions
* are adapting to moving countries

I also work with many concerns that aren't included in this list. How I work
My style of working is informed by Attachment Theory, by CBT and hypnotherapy with a focus on using the safety of the therapeutic relationship to help you address life's challenges in a creative and meaningful way. If this is your first experience of psychotherapy, you might find the idea a little daunting. So do feel free to call or email me if you have any questions before setting up an initial meeting. All sessions are currently online only, although I will be opening up my Borehamwood office for face to face consultations soon. If it makes it easier for you, feel free to call or email me if you have any questions before setting up an initial meeting. Professional Development

As part of my commitment to my on-going professional development, I present my clinical work to a supervisor, who like myself, adheres to the UKCP and BACP’s code of ethics, including the highest levels of confidentiality. I also participate in continuous peer-supervision to ensure that my practices in Shoreditch and Borehamwood afford the best informed care. In addition to my qualification in attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapy, I hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology (BA), completed an Associate's Training at The Arbors Therapeutic Community, and hold a certificate in Hypnotherapy (Eriksonian).

What could make you feel better on Feel Good Friday than an array of sunflowers? 🌻

I grew these from seed, and I love that they’re all at different stages.

Some are still in full bloom, some are beginning to fade, and one or two are only just getting going.

And then there’s my little grafted rose, just beginning to flower. 🌹

They’re all doing exactly what they’re meant to do, in their own time.

A little reminder, perhaps, that we don’t all have to be in the same place either.

Happy Friday. 🌻

This weekend I saw The Smile of Her by Christine Lahti, and it’s stayed with me.

This isn’t theatre as easy entertainment. It’s a deeply personal one-woman show that traces her childhood in 1950s and 60s America and explores how those early experiences continued to shape her life as a woman. It touches on family, silence, misogyny, trauma and the stories we inherit. (WhatsOnStage.com –)

I found it moving, stirring and, at times, a hard listen. But perhaps that’s exactly why it feels so important.

It gave voice to experiences that have too often been minimised or left unspoken. I came away feeling grateful to have witnessed someone tell such a truthful story with honesty and courage.

If you have the opportunity to see it, I’d really encourage you to go. Some stories aren’t easy to hear, but they are worth hearing.

This morning was something special. 🌿✨

A breakfast and reception to mark the opening of the Janette’s Garden — a space that captures her vibrancy, warmth, and the deep imprint she left on so many lives.

It was moving to be surrounded by colleagues and friends from all parts of her world, each bringing their memories, laughter, and love. Gateways have created something truly beautiful - a garden that holds both reflection and life, serenity and sparkle. Just like Janette.

Sharing a few quiet moments from today, with deep gratitude. 💚

You’ve done the work. You’ve read the books. And still, part of you keeps reaching for the same kind of connection — even when it hurts.
This isn’t about failure. It’s about familiarity.
Let’s gently explore why these patterns can feel so hard to shift — and what starts to change when you begin noticing them with compassion.

Ever find yourself pulling back right when things are going well?

That’s not laziness or a lack of willpower—it might be self-sabotage.
And more often than not, sabotage is just protection in disguise.

In this post, I break down why we do it, where it comes from, and how therapy can help you shift the pattern—not by fighting yourself, but by understanding yourself.

Ever feel like you’re stuck in a loop—even when you “know better”?

That inner conflict is often a sign that something deeper is ready to shift.

It’s not about willpower—it’s about understanding what shaped you.

I help professionals break free from old attachment patterns and move forward with clarity and self-trust.
