🌸Cervical screening awareness 🌸

Are you up to date with your cervical smear test?
Nearly 1 in 3 don't attend their cervical screening test

🌸Did you know you are entitled to a free cervical smear test every 5 years from the age of 25 - 64 years. Unfortunately, this test cannot be done when you're pregnant.
🌸Everyone with a cervix should have a cervical screen
🌸The cervix is the opening to your womb via your va**na
🌸This test helps to prevent cancer
🌸A small sample of cells are taken from the cervix at your appointment
🌸The sample is checked for types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause changes to the cells of your cervix. These are called high risk types of HPV.
🌸If these types of HPV are not found, you do not need any further tests.
🌸If these types of HPV are found, the sample is checked for any changes in the cells of your cervix. These can be treated to help prevent cervical cancer.
🌸You can have your cervical smear test done 3 months after you have had your baby, make sure you book in with your GP
🌸If you are worried about a cervical smear test or your results please speak to a health professional

🌟Learning disability awareness week 🌟

🌟Being seen, valued and heard throughout your pregnancy and post birth

🌟All individuals have the right to access care without discrimination

🌟Human rights law and equality law give you additional rights in pregnancy and childbirth with any disability

🌟Respecting your choice and dignity is important when supporting you to make decisions about your care

🌟If you are struggling with the resources or accessibility of information which we provide please reach out to your midwife or the team at the ask a midwife service to see if we can help provide care based on your individual needs. This could be written information in leaflet format instead of digital or using videos for visual content or allocating more time at appointments

🌟It can be hard to navigate pregnancy and post birth with a learning disability

🌟Addressing any learning disabilities you have can help your midwife and obstetric team tailor care towards you and your pregnancy/ birth needs

🌟Sometimes additional plans or support might be needed

🌟If you or your partner need more support and help please escalate this at the start of your journey to help improve health outcomes throughout your maternity care

🌟Knowing how you feel/ any adjustments and what we can do to improve your maternity care is important to us

💜Bonding with your baby in utero💜

💜This starts in the womb, talk to your baby and respond to their movements
💜Your baby can hear you and respond to your voice
💜Take time out in your pregnancy to get use to your baby’s pattern of movements
💜Talking and responding to your baby’s active periods will get them use to your voice
💜Communicating with your baby in utero will help their brain develop
💜Feeling your baby kick and move can help boost your oxytocin, this hormone helps you bond with your baby and helps with breastfeeding
💜Sing or read to your bump
💜Get your partner, siblings, family and friends involved - familiar voices start in the womb
💜Its also ok to not feel a straight away connection - sometimes this takes time. If you are struggling with bonding with your baby or pregnancy please reach out to your midwife, GP or ask a midwife service for further support

💜Bonding with your baby also continues in the postnatal period 💜

⭐Breastfeeding positioning and attachment ⭐

Do you know following these simple principles with breastfeeding could help you with your feeding journey.

Sometimes it is tricky to get your baby into a good position to breastfeed. This is an easy way to remember what to look out for when getting a good latch.

Bring the CHIN to the breast first for a feed

👶C - Close (Keep your baby close)
👶H - Head free (Remove any restriction from your baby's head to promote your baby to move their head back for a wide/ deep latch) - even one finger can impact
👶I - In-line (Baby in a nice comfortable position, tucked bum in for close feed)
👶N- Nose to ni**le (start your feed in this position until your baby opens there mouth nice and wide to allow the ni**le to guide to the soft palate of your baby's mouth)
👶S - Sustainable is the breastfeed/ latch comfortable for you and your baby?

If you are unsure always get support from a health professional such as midwife, health visitor or breastfeeding peer support groups.

👶Infant mental health week👶
8th-14th June 2026

Focusing on the theme of ‘Attunement’ to support babies’ emotional development.

"Emotional attunement involves noticing, understanding and responding to another person’s emotional state in a sensitive and appropriate way. When adults are emotionally attuned to babies and young children they notice cues, validate children’s emotions and appropriately respond to them".

Attunement helps babies to feel safe and loved. It helps babies learn to regulate their emotions, supporting good infant mental health.
