The Youth Fairy Guildford & Woking

The Youth Fairy Guildford & Woking We help them SMILE with happiness, SPARKLE with confidence and STRIVE to grow and succeed. We are both LGBTQ+ friendly therapists.

A modern, solution-focused approach to positive change for children, teens and young adults struggling with anxiety, stress, low mood, anger and low confidence. Hello👋 We are Sam and Sarah, therapists at The Youth Fairy, a team of solution-focused therapists who help children, teens and young adults struggling with anxiety, stress, anger, emotional control and low confidence. We use modern, brain-

based approaches, including Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, that actively encourage young people to:

🧚 Re-focus on the positive aspects of life
🧚 Recognise strengths
🧚 Improve quality of sleep
🧚 Engage more in positive activities
🧚 Engage more in positive interactions
🧚 Feel more emotionally in control

We both work with children from 6 years old to young adults and are able to adapt our approach to work with those with additional needs, special educational needs, disabilities and neurodiversity. Areas we work with include:

🧡 Anxiety
🧡 Stress
🧡 Low mood
🧡 Anger management
🧡 Social anxiety
🧡 Low self-esteem
🧡 Low confidence
🧡 Sports/exam performance
🧡 Fears and phobias
🧡 Exam stress and anxiety
🧡 Transition to secondary school/college
🧡 Trauma
🧡 Self-harm
🧡 Sleep problems

We are both extremely passionate about the solution-focused approach to therapy. It encourages children to focus on the positive changes in thoughts, feelings and behaviours they would like to make, without the need to dwell on the past. We look for solutions to problems and focus on how they want thing to be rather than how they don’t want them to be.

🧚About Sarah🧚

In addition to being a therapist, my 25 years experience as a nurse working in critical care, has given me a deep understanding of physical and emotional well-being. I have worked with children and their families at their most vulnerable, navigating both physical and mental challenges, including pain, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.

🧚About Sam🧚

I began my career as an osteopath and went on to specialise in paediatric osteopathy, helping children to navigate their emotional and physical health. Seeing the rise in children and young adults struggling with anxiety and depression, I realised I wanted to centre my work into helping young people with their mental health. This drove my desire to become a therapist and, of course, a Youth Fairy!

🌟 Next Steps 🌟

🧚Once you have chosen which of us you feel is right for your child, we offer a free, 1 hour initial consultation. This is an opportunity for us to meet, explore best hopes and discuss how we can help your child.

🧚 As well as helping young people make positive changes, educating them on their well-being is something we know to be an important part of the change process.

🧚 So, in the consultation, we'll explain to you and your child how the brain works (in an age-appropriate way) to create their specific problems and associated feelings, behaviours or symptoms and how we can help.

🌟 This understanding can be really motivational to children as they realise there is hope, see more clearly what we can do about it and supports them in developing more positive, healthy habits for life.

🌟 This knowledge is super helpful for you as a parent too - it allows for greater understanding, creates a common language to talk more easily with your child about their well-being and gives you specific ideas of how you can best support the process (and beyond). You’ll also get our relaxation audio download to help improve any sleep problems they are having and support the process. 😴😴😴

We both hold an up-to-date Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and are proud members of the following professional bodies:

• National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)
• Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH)
• Complementary and National Health Council (CNHC)
• National Board of Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP)

If your child is already saying things like...
"I don't want to go back." "What if nobody plays with me?" or "What if I can't do the work?"...please know this is more common than you might think 😢

For many children, the anticipation is far scarier than the reality, but rather than trying to convince them that "everything will be fine", try helping them build confidence one small step at a time 🤯

Our Parent Toolkit is full of simple ideas to reduce uncertainty, rebuild familiar routines and gently prepare children for the new school year. It’s your job as parents to give your children the confidence to know that they can cope, whatever happens 🤩

If your child's worries feel persistent or are beginning to affect everyday life, we can offer professional support which can help them understand and manage their anxiety in a positive, lasting way.

Save this post so you can come back to it before the new term begins 🧚

How does anxiety show up in your child? Or stress or low confidence? They show up in physical and behavioural ways that might not be obvious 🤯

Anxiety can look like tummy aches before school. Stress can show up as anger, or tears or emotional outbursts. Low confidence sometimes sounds like “I can’t do it.”
Often, your child simply doesn't have the words to explain what’s going on inside so those feelings manifest in other ways 😢

The Youth Fairy SMILE Programme 🧚 is designed to support children and teenagers experiencing challenges such as anxiety, stress, low mood, anger, excessive worrying, sleep difficulties and low confidence.

Using a modern, solution-focused approach, sessions help young people understand what is happening in their brain🧠, why they might be feeling overwhelmed, and how they can begin to take back control of their emotions and reactions.

The aim is not just to help children feel better in the moment, but to equip them with lifelong tools to manage challenges more confidently in the future.
Your child - every child - deserves to feel calm, happy, resilient and confident in who they are 🤩

If exam results feel like a closed door to your child, remind them that this is the start of a new chapter and while that might look differently to what they had thought, it’s in their power to make new choices and keep moving forward 🤩

Every parent wants to take away their child's worries, but when it comes to anxiety, removing every challenge can sometimes make fears grow even bigger 🫣

Instead, think of dealing with anxiety like climbing a ladder. 🪜

The top rung might be the thing your child finds overwhelming right now, and rather than expecting them to leap straight there, help them tackle the first, smallest step.

When that feels manageable, they can move to the next rung, knowing that each step teaches their brain 🧠 that they can cope.

If anxiety is stopping your child from enjoying everyday life, we can help them climb their ladder at a pace that feels safe and achievable through Solution-Focused therapy sessions.

Last week was A’ level results day and tomorrow is GCSE results day, and with both days comes a whole range of emotions: nervousness, apprehension, disappointment or excitement.

✨ Whilst this day is full of nerves for both parents and their teenagers, one thing is certain: nothing that happens on those days can change what has led up to this point, so it’s all about moving forward – whether good or not quite the outcome that was hoped for.

And whilst, if disappointments arise it might feel like the end of the road, the second truth is that it’s really only the beginning. The beginning of many opportunities to come. 🙌

As the saying goes, “Ones best successes come after their greatest disappointment” (Henry Ward Beecher).

⚡️ If disappointment is something your teenager faces this week, although they may not see it at first, their results leave them with OPPORTUNITY – the opportunity to give up, or the opportunity to try again, and the opportunity to perhaps try a different path that can lead to even more opportunity!

⚡️ Because when we frame disappointment in a positive light, we know it’s not the end of the road – and it gives us the hope and courage to try again.

🤯 Disappointments often lead to a spiral of negative thinking in the immediate aftermath. It’s important, once your teenager has had time to process this, that we support them in finding new ways to reframe this in a way that proves helpful and motivating to them.

So, head on over to The Parent Pad to read this week’s blog in full for more on:

If your child lacks confidence, it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong.
Children naturally compare themselves to others, fear getting things wrong and sometimes struggle to see all the wonderful things that everyone else can see in them 🥰

One of the greatest gifts we can give them, to boost their self-esteem, is the belief that their worth isn't measured by success or perfection.

As parents, it's easy to focus on achievements, but some of the biggest confidence boosts come from celebrating effort, encouraging independence and helping children see that mistakes aren't failures, they're just a part of learning ☺️

Remember, our children's brains naturally pay more attention to what goes wrong than what goes right. That's why it's so important to help them notice their strengths, celebrate their progress and recognise just how capable they really are 🙌

Small moments, repeated often, build strong self-esteem. If your child struggles with confidence, low self-worth or constant self-doubt, the right support can help them see themselves differently.

Disappointing exam results can knock a teenager's confidence. They might begin to question their abilities, lose motivation or convince themselves there's no point trying again 😫

Helping them find fresh motivation means guiding them towards what they can control now and shifting the focus away from what went wrong and towards what comes next.

Instead of dwelling on disappointment, encourage them to think about:
⭐Their next opportunity.
⭐New goals they want to achieve.
⭐The strengths they already have.
⭐The support available to help them move forward.

Remind them that every setback brings an opportunity to grow and re-write their future. Often, the greatest success stories begin with a result that didn't go to plan!

If your teenager is struggling to move past disappointment or their confidence has been shaken by exam results, remember they don't have to face it alone. With the right support, they can rebuild their belief in themselves and discover that this chapter doesn't define the rest of their story 🤩🧚

Empty nest syndrome isn't just feeling sad 😢

It's the loss of familiar routines, it’s wondering who you are outside of being "Mum" or "Dad", it's worrying whether they're eating properly, sleeping enough or remembering to lock the door. It's learning to let go while still loving them just as much as ever ♥

The mix of emotions can feel overwhelming, but they're all completely valid. If your child has recently flown the nest, here's something to remember: You don't have to rush through empty nest syndrome.

Take time to process the change. Reconnect with hobbies you once loved, stay connected with your child without feeling the need to check in every hour, strengthen friendships and relationships that may have taken a back seat, or set yourself new goals that bring excitement and purpose 😁

As you build new routines, your brain begins to adapt too. New experiences can help boost your mood, strengthen resilience and remind you that while parenting has changed, your family relationships haven’t.

In time, you will know that an empty nest isn't the end, it's a new beginning 🧚
