PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT

Over the past few days I’ve been sending out lots of copies of the Breaking the Cycle guide following our How Screen Dependence Begins post.

With children off school for the summer, screen time often increases naturally. Routines change, there can be fewer structured activities, and screens can quickly become the easiest way to fill long days. For many families, this is the time when healthy boundaries can start to feel much harder.

One question that keeps coming up is, “How do I actually explain this to my child?”

That’s exactly why I created this free Curious Conversations download in 2025.

Rather than sitting children down for a lecture, try using it together in a relaxed moment.
Read through it side by side, ask open questions, and be curious about their thoughts.
You might ask, “Does any of this feel familiar?”
or “Do you ever notice that it’s harder to stop than you expected?” Listening to their perspective can often be far more powerful than trying to convince them.

Children are much more likely to engage with change when they understand what is happening in their brain, rather than simply feeling that screens are being taken away.

If you’ve already downloaded Breaking the Cycle, I hope this will be a useful companion resource to continue those conversations over the summer holidays.

We’ll also be sharing more resources and explanations as part of The Screen Series over the coming weeks, exploring the developing brain, healthy boundaries, emotional regulation, and practical ways to support children to build a balanced relationship with technology.
