The Birtley Bus has been keeping our residents busy with some wonderful summer outings!

From enjoying the wildlife at Broadwater Lake, to retail therapy, tea and cake at M&S Brooklands, listening to beautiful live piano music at Guildford Cathedral, and exploring the latest exhibition at Cranleigh Arts Centre, there's been something for everyone.

Regular trips out offer a welcome change of scenery, encourage social connection and support wellbeing - creating special memories along the way.

Summer at Birtley House wouldn't be the same without our annual Strawberry Tea!

Residents, friends and family came together in the shaded Mews courtyard to enjoy delicious homemade cakes, fresh strawberries, and wonderful company.

As per the photographs, it was a lovely afternoon.

Reminding us that it's the simple traditions and time spent together that create the sweetest memories.

With the arrival of this glorious weather, our Wellness and Lifestyle Team were delighted to take some of our residents for a picnic by the River Wey in Guildford.

Sitting at Dapdune Wharf, everyone enjoyed watching the boats gently pootle by while relaxing in the sunshine with their sun hats and sunglasses on.

A wonderful afternoon full of fresh air, smiles, laughter, and lovely company.

Happy 100th Birthday to Sir David Attenborough

Many of our nursing home residents have spent decades watching and enjoying Sir David Attenborough's inspiring nature programmes. His storytelling and dedication to the natural world have educated generations, shaped careers, and deepened people' appreciation for wildlife and conservation.

We are especially proud that, during the 1980s, our Birtley House Nursing Home Chairman Simon Whalley established a fundraising company that went on to support wildlife conservation initiatives. With Sir David Attenborough serving as Chair of the British Wildlife Appeal, nearly £15 million was raised for British wildlife conservation.

Supporting nature and wildlife has therefore long been an important value of the Birtley House Estate. We remain committed to maintaining beautiful natural surroundings that provide a thriving habitat for British wildlife, while also bringing enjoyment, comfort, and wellbeing to our residents every day.

Thank you, Sir David Attenborough, for sharing your passion for the observation, understanding, and preservation of the natural world with us all.

As we welcomed April, our residents were delighted to enjoy another visit from Graham at St Francis Animal Care, along with two adorable hedgehogs.

Their gentle nature brought plenty of smiles and a lovely reminder of the beauty British wildlife.
