Navigating Change!

When a child’s world shifts—whether it’s a house move, a new school, or a change in family dynamics—it can feel like someone's just shaken up a jigsaw puzzle box.

A child might feel as though the picture they’ve been building is lost, leaving them frustrated by edges that no longer seem to fit. This "scrambled" sensation can make their world feel unsettled, but therapy offers a calm, neutral space to sit with the pieces and patiently find where they belong again.

Change is a natural and inevitable part of life and sadly can't be avoided. Therefore, journeying together with your child through changes can teach them so much about how to approach change in the future.

Some helpful things to try:
✨ Leave extra time where possible to catch up - There may be more feelings of uncertainty so having your time to talk / connect can go a long way.

✨ Find the Constant - What is staying the same and can be relied upon at this time? Not everything is changing and finding the things that are permanent and reliable can be helpful.

✨ Be patient - behaviours may change as your child settles into their new normal. This is natural and to be expected. Patience will act as your bridge through your changes.

Exam Season: Supporting Our Young People through Tests 📚✨

The SATs season is approaching, and whether it’s the Year 2 "quizzes" or the Year 6 "big tests," we know that exam stress can start to feel heavy for children—and their parents!

No child should feel defined by a test score. While schools do a brilliant job of preparing them academically, the emotional toll can sometimes lead to anxiety, tummy aches, or restless nights.

How to Spot Exam Stress:
Younger children might not understand what an exam is, but they may pick up on the classroom's high energy and performance-focus, leading to tearfulness or "clingy" behaviour.
For Year 6 children, the preparation for secondary school and the pressure to perform can feel like a 'make or break' moment.. often resulting in irritability, anxiety or withdrawal.

Quick Tips for Home:
Keep the Routine: Stability is the best antidote to stress. Stick to regular bedtimes and plenty of play.
The 10-Minute Vent: Give them a dedicated space to talk about their worries without trying to "fix". Just listen.

Need a little extra support? If your child is struggling to navigate their big feelings during this term, I’m here to help. I provide a calm, creative, and safe environment for children to process their anxieties and build strategies to manage these stresses and challenges.
