Perimenopause & Menopause
Perimenopause is the time leading up to menopause, when hormone levels fluctuate and periods may change. Symptoms can begin several years before periods stop.
Menopause is reached when you have not had a period for 12 consecutive months.
Symptoms vary and may include:
• Hot flushes and night sweats
• Sleep disturbance
• Anxiety, mood changes or brain fog
• Va**nal dryness or discomfort
• Urinary symptoms
• Joint and muscle aches
If you are over 45, diagnosis is usually based on your symptoms and changes to your periods rather than blood tests.
Lifestyle changes, HRT and non-hormonal treatments may all help. Support should be tailored to your symptoms, medical history and personal preferences.
Everyone experiences perimenopause and menopause differently. Understanding what is happening can help you make informed choices about your health and the support available.
You do not have to simply put up with troublesome symptoms.
