“I keep having my corns removed… so why do they keep coming back?”
This is one of the most common questions I hear in clinic.
🔍 The truth is:
Corns don’t just appear—they form because of repeated pressure or friction on the skin.
So if the pressure is still there…
the corn will return.
👣 Common causes:
• Tight or ill-fitting footwear
• Toe deformities (e.g. hammer toes)
• Prominent joints or bones
• Changes in how you walk
Treatment isn’t just about removing the corn—it’s about understanding why it’s forming in the first place.
That might include:
• Footwear advice
• Pressure offloading
• Addressing underlying foot mechanics
When the cause is managed, the corn becomes much easier to control—and often less likely to return.

Feet Sweating More in the Heat? …… Avoiding Athletes Foot
As the weather warms up, our feet spend more time in trainers, work shoes and sandals. Unfortunately, warm, damp feet create the perfect environment for fungal infections such as athlete's foot.
Common signs of athlete's foot include:
✔ Itching between the toes
✔ Peeling or flaky skin
✔ Redness or soreness
✔ Cracks in the skin
✔ An unpleasant foot odour
Top tips to reduce your risk:
• Change socks daily (or more often if your feet sweat heavily)
• Allow shoes to dry out between wears
• Dry carefully between your toes after showering
• Choose breathable footwear where possible
• Use an antifungal powder or spray if you're prone to sweaty feet
Don't ignore athlete's foot. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the toenails, making it much harder to treat.
👣 If you're struggling with persistent itching, peeling skin, fungal nails, or excessive sweating, we're here to help …..

Pain under the ball of your foot?
It might not be what you think…
A plantar plate tear is a common but often overlooked cause of forefoot pain—especially around the 2nd toe.
What is it?
The plantar plate is a strong ligament that supports your toe joint. When it becomes stretched or torn, it can lead to pain, instability, and even toe deviation.
Common signs:
• Pain under the ball of the foot
• Swelling or tenderness
• Feeling like you’re “walking on a stone”
• Toe starting to drift or lift
🚶‍♀️ Why it matters:
If left untreated, it can worsen over time and affect how you walk.
The good news:
Early assessment and the right treatment can significantly improve symptoms and prevent progression.

Are You Diabetic? Book your foot check now! 🦶
https://www.thehagleyroadclinic.co.uk/
Did you know diabetes can reduce sensation and circulation in the feet, meaning small problems can develop without you even realising?
Regular diabetic foot checks are important to help identify:
✔ Changes in sensation
✔ Poor circulation
✔ Pressure areas
✔ Corns and hard skin
✔ Nail problems
✔ Skin changes and early wounds
Early detection and treatment can help prevent more serious complications later on.
If you are diabetic, looking after your feet should be part of your regular health care routine.

Keeping up with continued professional development .....
I had the pleasure of visiting Clifton Bradley at Sub-4 MSK Clinic yesterday, which was both educational and insightful.
It was fascinating to learn more about the assessment process and the manufacture of custom 3D-printed orthoses. I observed two particularly interesting cases involving pelvic mechanics, leg length differences and their relationship with foot function and injury.
Clifton utilises pressure plate analysis, plantar scanning technology and LutraCAD software to create bespoke orthotic designs, which are then manufactured using his 3D printing system.
What surprised me most was the finished product. Unlike many people’s perception of 3D-printed orthotics, they were incredibly lightweight, comfortable and had a softer feel than traditional devices.
It's always valuable to spend time with like-minded clinicians, sharing knowledge and exploring new technologies that may help improve patient outcomes.
Thank you, Clifton, for your time and hospitality.
