Why I have launched the Mentor Mum Guild....
🤍
If I had not been ‘Mentor Mum’ to my daughter when she was in labour and giving birth to my granddaughter, this picture would not have happened. I would have lost them both. Here is the brief version of their story.
🖤
At 41weeks they insisted on inducing, even though we kept saying they had originally given us a different due date. My daughter wanted her partner there of course as he wanted to be there for his baby’s birth, but she wanted ME there to support HER and I am so grateful that I was. To cut a very long story short, mistakes were made by the hospital and I was there to point them out, to be her voice when she couldn’t speak and to be the wisdom and reason when her partner wasn’t able to (by his own admission he does not cope with blood or have the knowledge when things were wrong). If I had not insisted, spoken up or been there to know something was wrong, in the surgeons own words ‘we were losing them both’.
But I WAS there and as you can see from this picture (after 4 days in NICU, a lumbar puncture in her first 24hrs and sepsis) they both came home.
❤️
Whilst I truly believe a partner should be there if they both so wish to witness the birth of their child, a woman needs a Mentor Mum by their side too, to be the knowledge, experience, voice and reason when needed to enable a much more positive outcome for both mum and baby.
🤍
Now this may indeed be Mum, like me, but it could be an Aunt, a Grandmother, Sister, Cousin, Friend or a Mentor Mum they have got to know throughout their pregnancy.
🖤
Midwifery services have been cut year on year to the point that many women actually give birth alone - devastating statistics demonstrate that we are NOT leading the way for positive birth outcomes. But you can make a difference, know you have someone there to be that voice for you so that you can focus on the birth you envisaged - this is why I have launched Mentor Mums ❤️

If you’ve just had your first scan you’re already through the first trimester - that’s a third of the way through and you’ve probably not really talked to anyone about your thoughts, your worries or your questions, we don’t want you feeling alone for the next two trimesters- you need a Mentor Mum!
