We’re open early and until 4pm today for all your coffee and snack needs. It may be a bit miserable and damp outside, but you’ll always get a warm welcome here, and a great cup of coffee.
So why should you choose us over the many other places you could choose to get coffee today?
Let’s take you through the first coffee of the morning.
1 All of our coffee is ground fresh to order, no pre ground coffee sitting going stale - and at opening that means purging what’s in the grind head and wasting the first shot.
2 our grinder should grind the same amount each time, but we check using a scale every time so we’re consistant.
3 we then use our distributor and tamper which uses a pre measured force to ensure a compact puck to avoid channelling to ensure a consistent extraction.
4 We then time and weigh the shot. For an 18g double shot a guideline is a 2:1 output, so 36g, however for our Tanzanian Kongoni, we use a slightly higher extraction to bring out a sweeter flavour, so we’re currently extracting about 41-42g in a shot, in about 30 seconds.
5 next we steam the milk, we’re aiming for a lovely glossy microfoam that ends up looking like wet paint in the jug, we tap out any larger bubbles and swirl to keep the milk alive.
6 we pour the milk into the espresso shot and try our best at latte art. I was never very good at art at school - sorry, but I’m trying! But I can assure you the end result tastes great - come and see if you agree and try us out today.
