What a fantastic day at Five Sisters Zoo !

Last weekend, we invited some of our paediatric patients and their families for a day at the zoo and we were delighted to spend time with them, creating an opportunity to come together, enjoy a day out and make lasting memories.

Supporting children and families extends beyond treatment. Days like these remind us of the importance of connection, community and the moments that matter most.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special.

Good luck to Hannah as she takes on the Royal Osteoporosis Society's 40 for 40 Challenge!

To celebrate the charity's 40th anniversary, Hannah has signed up to walk 40 miles during August, with the goal of raising £140 for the Royal Osteoporosis Society.

It's a cause that has a strong connection to the work we do at Lloyds Clinical. Every year, we support more than 1,000 patients with osteoporosis treatment at home through specialist nurse training, helping patients confidently self-administer injections, alongside medication dispensing and delivery services.

By supporting the Royal Osteoporosis Society in its milestone year, Hannah is helping the charity continue its vital work for people living with osteoporosis across the UK, including many of the patients we support.

Best of luck, Hannah. We're all behind you! 👏

It's HAN Week!

While Home Artificial Nutrition (HAN) Week officially takes place from 3-9 August, we got a head start last week with a series of activities to celebrate and raise awareness alongside PINNT.

This year's theme, "The Seen and The Unseen", shines a light on the many people, processes and services that make Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) possible.

Our Nursing team explored some of the areas that often go unseen, including:
- The ancillary equipment that supports safe HPN delivery
- Behind-the-scenes tours of our Compounding sites
- A roundtable discussion on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and the wider HPN pathway

HAN Week is an opportunity to recognise not only the patients living with intestinal failure, but also the teams and infrastructure that help make specialist nutrition support possible outside of hospital.

"I live at home, I work and the hospital comes to me."

For one of our patients receiving treatment for breast cancer, treatment at home means less time travelling and more time focusing on everyday life.

With support from specialist nurses, regular blood tests, medication deliveries and ECG monitoring at home, care is coordinated around her needs, helping to make treatment feel simpler and less stressful.

One comment really stood out: "I don't want to feel like a patient, I just want to be able to get on with life."

It's a powerful reminder of why giving people choice in where they receive care matters.

A wonderful day with patients and families

We were delighted to support a recent Family Fun Day for families from the Oxford and Southampton intestinal failure centres.

The day was all about bringing people together, giving families the chance to meet others with similar experiences and make new connections.

One of our specialist Discharge Planning Manager, Rosie, was there to meet families, answer questions and share information about the support available through Lloyds Clinical.

Staying safe in hot weather ☀️

Warmer days can be more challenging when you’re receiving cancer treatment, so it’s important to take a few extra steps to stay safe and comfortable.

Simple things can make a big difference:
- Staying well hydrated throughout the day
- Avoiding peak heat where possible
- Protecting your skin and staying
- Taking time to rest when you need it

Everyone’s experience is different, so listening to your body and following advice from your care team is key.

A little preparation can help you feel more in control and enjoy the warmer weather more safely. Learn more here - https://lloydsclinical.com/staying-safe-during-hot-weather-a-guide-for-cancer-patients/

Hot weather reminder: keep your medicines stored safely

As temperatures rise, it’s important to take extra care when storing your medication. Heat can affect the quality and effectiveness of some medicines, especially those that need to be refrigerated or stored below 25°C.

A few simple tips can help:
✅ Keep medicines in their original packaging
✅ Store them in a cool, dry place
✅ Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat sources
✅ Never leave medicines in a car or other enclosed space
✅ Use an insulated bag when travelling if advised to do so

Before using your medication, check for any unusual changes in colour, smell or appearance. If you're concerned that it may have been exposed to excessive heat, speak to your healthcare professional or contact Lloyds Clinical for advice.

Stay safe and stay cool this summer. Read more: https://lloydsclinical.com/hot-weather-medicines-storage-advice/

Planning a trip while on HPN? ✈️

Travelling is still possible, it just takes a bit of planning.

The most important step is to let your Lloyds Clinical team know your travel plans early (around six weeks before you go), so they can support you with everything you need. They’ll help by:
✅ Arranging delivery of your medication and equipment
✅ Providing the paperwork you need for travel and security
✅ Making sure you have the right supplies for your trip

With the right support in place, you can travel with more peace of mind, knowing your treatment is taken care of.
