"They talk about him, not to him." - One of the most common things families tell us, and it's heartbreaking every time.

Dementia stigma delays diagnosis, drives friends away and leaves people feeling like a burden in their own home. None of that is caused by dementia. It's caused by how we respond to it.

Speak to the person, not over them. Give them time, and keep inviting them.

It's National Fitness Day, and for many of the people we help support, fitness looks exactly like this. A slow walk to incorporate gentle movement within the week. Fresh air, a bit of chat and the confidence that someone is there to support movement safely.🚶

Movement doesn't have to be big to be worth doing. Getting up and about regularly helps keep the body strong and balance steady, which matters enormously when one fall can change how someone lives at home.

Then there's the part that never shows up in any care plan: the confidence that comes from knowing you're staying active safely. 🌿

That's where our carers come in. We're there so the walk or gentle exercises feel possible, whether that's steadying an arm on the step, offering peace of mind knowing someone is there if something goes wrong, or knowing when to suggest turning back. 🤝

So this National Fitness Day, we’d like to encourage everyone to get moving!

Sometimes a few words from a family say it better than we ever could. 🌸

"Both carers who come twice a week have made the experience for both of us the best that it can be in the circumstances."

That last part means the world to us. Dementia care is never just about one person. It is about the wife, the husband, the son or daughter who is holding everything together too.

Finding the right activity, learning what makes someone smile, noticing the small changes. That takes time, and it is exactly why at Blossom we are committed to our 'Time to Care' promise.

Thank you for such kind words, and for trusting us with something so precious. 🌸

Alzheimer's myths and facts: how many of these have you heard? 🧠

Alzheimer's and dementia are the same thing.
Only older people can get Alzheimer's.
People with dementia can't understand what's going on around them.
If I’m diagnosed with dementia, it means my life is over.
All people with dementia experience distressing changes in their behaviour (such as aggression).

All false. Swipe for the facts. 💜

Not sure what to do after an Alzheimer's diagnosis? Your local Blossom Home Care team is here for a no-pressure chat.

Save this and share it with someone who needs it.

A lovely sunny weekend to share the amazing work of Epping’s Dementia Inclusive Community at the Epping Town Fair Epping Forest District Council

Dementia Inclusive Communities are formed of local businesses, healthcare providers, charities and interested individuals who want to enable their communities to be accessible and supportive to people living with dementia. Their work enables people living with dementia to play full and active roles in their own communities.

'What might seem like a simple journey is so much more than that.' 💛

That's how Donna describes the difference Blossom has made for her adult daughter - not just getting her to and from her day centre, but the kindness, patience and dependability that's grown into real trust over time.

The daily impact of bloomin' good care? A daughter who feels more confident and independent, and a family who finally has complete peace of mind.

This is exactly why we do what we do. Thank you, Donna, for such a beautiful review - it means more than you know. 🌸
