☀️🌡️ HEATWAVE HEALTH TIP: DON'T FORGET ABOUT MEDICATION STORAGE 🌡️☀️

When the weather gets hot, most of us remember to drink more water and stay out of the midday sun. But did you know that high temperatures can also affect some medications?

Many medicines are designed to be stored below certain temperatures, and prolonged exposure to heat, direct sunlight, or hot environments such as conservatories and parked cars may affect how well they work.

✅ Keep medicines in a cool, dry place
✅ Store them away from direct sunlight and heat sources
✅ Leave medicines in their original packaging whenever possible
✅ Check whether any medications need to be kept in the refrigerator
✅ Never leave medicines in a parked car, even for a short time

It's also worth checking regularly for any signs that medication may have been affected by the heat. If tablets, capsules, creams, or liquids appear melted, discoloured, leaking, cloudy, or otherwise unusual, speak to a pharmacist before using them.

Heatwaves can be particularly challenging for older people and those with long-term health conditions. If you're supporting an elderly relative, friend, or neighbour, a quick check that they're staying cool, hydrated, and storing their medications correctly can make a real difference.

If you think you may have been affected by a scam, or if something simply doesn't feel right, it may be worth taking a few simple steps:

✅ Change passwords, particularly for email and online banking accounts
✅ Check your credit report for any unexpected activity
✅ Be cautious of unexpected calls, emails or text messages asking for personal information
✅ Speak to a trusted family member, friend or professional if you're unsure

For those concerned about identity fraud, Cifas Protective Registration offers an additional layer of protection by requesting extra checks when applications are made in your name. There is currently a fee of £30 for two years' protection.

It was an incredibly informative and thought-provoking session that provided a safe space to share best practice, discuss real-life experiences, and learn from one another. 🤝 These conversations are invaluable in helping us better understand the challenges faced by people living with dementia and those who support them every day. 💙

Dementia UK, in partnership with Nationwide Building Society, is offering 45-minute appointments with specialist dementia nurses (Admiral Nurses) at Nationwide branches across Hertfordshire.

🌞 What a fantastic day we had at Wheathampstead Village Day on Saturday 11th July! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand to say hello, ask for advice, or chat about our companionship and home help service for themselves or a loved one. It was wonderful to meet so many new faces, as well as catch up with some of our lovely existing clients.

We were also delighted to be interviewed by .6 – thank you!

A special shout out to Wheathampstead Parish Council for organising such a brilliant community event. We love being part of Village Day every year, and this was by far the biggest one we've ever seen! It was fantastic to see so many families, local businesses, charities and community groups coming together.

Lovely event, lovely people, and a truly wonderful community. We can't wait to do it all again next year! 💙
