The signs that something isn’t quite right aren’t always obvious.

Sometimes it’s a subtle change, feeling a little stiffer at the start of a ride, becoming reluctant on one rein, struggling with an exercise they normally find easy, or simply behaving differently.

Horses are incredibly good at adapting and compensating, which means discomfort can sometimes show up as a change in movement, behaviour or performance long before obvious lameness appears.

You know your horse better than anyone. If something feels different, it’s worth paying attention to.

Early assessment can help identify areas of discomfort or restriction before they begin to create bigger problems elsewhere.

If you’re concerned about your horse’s movement, comfort or performance, please get in touch. We’re always happy to chat!

🐴 Exciting news from Golding Vet Physio!

We’re pleased to announce that we’re now offering Class IV laser therapy as part of our equine physiotherapy services.

Class IV laser therapy can be particularly beneficial as part of rehabilitation for:

✨ Competition horses recovering from injury or returning to work
✨ Horses with tendon or ligament injuries
✨ Horses recovering from muscle strains or other soft-tissue injuries
✨ Horses with joint pain or osteoarthritis
✨ Older horses managing chronic musculoskeletal conditions
✨ Horses with wounds or soft-tissue trauma

Class IV laser uses targeted light energy to stimulate cellular activity and support the body’s natural healing processes. It can help support tissue repair, manage pain and inflammation, and create a positive environment for healing.

Laser therapy isn’t a standalone treatment or cure, and every horse and injury is different. We use this treatment where appropriate as part of individualised physiotherapy and rehabilitation programmes.

📍 Based in Lamberhurst, Kent, providing equine physiotherapy across Kent, East Sussex and surrounding areas.

Interested in finding out whether laser therapy could benefit your horse? Get in touch to discuss their individual needs.

🐴 What if your horse’s behaviour isn’t a training problem?

When a horse starts resisting, becoming tense, struggling with certain movements, or simply feeling “off”, it’s easy to assume it’s a training issue.

But sometimes the behaviour is actually a symptom.

A horse that:
• Doesn’t want to bend one way
• Finds a lead change difficult
• Becomes girthy or sensitive
• Starts pinning their ears
• Feels reluctant to move forward

May be trying to tell you something.

Behaviour is only one piece of the puzzle. Veterinary Physiotherapy assesses the horse’s movement, posture, muscle function, and compensatory patterns to identify potential underlying causes of discomfort.

Not every behavioural change is caused by pain.

But when a horse’s behaviour changes, it’s always worth asking why.

The earlier underlying issues are identified, the easier they are often to address, helping your horse stay comfortable, happy, and performing at their best.

Your horse doesn’t have to be lame to need physiotherapy.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that if a horse isn’t obviously lame, there’s nothing to worry about.

In reality, many horses show subtle changes long before a problem becomes obvious.

These small changes are often easy to dismiss as training issues, age, fitness, or simply “one of those things.” But sometimes they’re your horse’s way of telling you that something isn’t quite right.

The earlier discomfort, tension, or movement restrictions are identified, the easier they are to address.

If you’ve noticed any of these signs in your horse, we’d be happy to help.

📩 Send us a DM to discuss whether physiotherapy could benefit your horse.
