My latest affirmation collage is a tribute to Hayden Panettiere.

Inspired by the scene in Heroes where her character, Claire takes Elle's had to help her control her power and ease her anxieties, this moment inspired me as a doula.

Since rewatching that episode, I've been reminded of this power whilst attending birth and there truly is an energy shift that happens when you hold someone's hand in labour. Sometimes I can even feel the intensity of the surge rise to a peak and fall back down as a labouring person grips my hand tighter and then slowly releases it.

I know that not everyone likes using the word 'pain' to describe the sensations of surges in labour but for some it can be validating and true. So I decided to create two versions:

Hold my hand and share my pain
Hold my hand and feel my power

Hadyen was also vocal about the impact of birth trauma on her life and her experiences of navigating. May the love she gave her daughter and others transcend this dimension.

For me, doula support isn't about telling you how to give birth.

It's about helping you understand your options, ask the questions that matter to you and feel confident making decisions about your own care.

Receiving feedback like this reminds me exactly why I do this work.

Happy Butch Appreciation Day đź–¤

Today is a day to celebrate butch people in all their beauty, tenderness, strength and complexity.

Butch people become pregnant.
Butch people give birth.
Butch people breastfeed, chestfeed and feed their babies.
Butch people become parents without carrying a pregnancy.
Butch people support partners through pregnancy and birth.

And none of these experiences make someone any less butch.

Everyone deserves care that doesn't ask them to put part of themselves aside in order to be supported.

So today, a little extra love for the butches. đź–¤

You belong in our birth spaces, our parenting spaces and our families , exactly as you are.

"Take my hand. Let me help you."

Hayden Panettiere's role as Claire Bennett in Heroes is one that truly altered my brain chemistry as a kid. I remember being so in awe of the character Hayden created and even got to meet her at Comic Con in London in the late 2000s.

I was recently rewatching Heroes and this scene where Claire uses her healing power to help Elle resonated so deeply with what I do as a doula: holding someone's hand to share their pain. This scene beautifully showed the power of the simple act of taking someone's hand.

She is also a mother who has been vocal about her own experiences of postnatal depression.

Sending love to all of those who knew Hayden 🤍

a baby is like fruit, they are born when they are ripe 🥭

My latest affirmation collage was inspired by this phrase I came across in my Mamatoto book. It is a Malaysian phrase alluding to the idea that a baby will be born when they are ready to be born. If anyone has heard this phrase in Malay, please do share it!

Happy World Breastfeeding & Chestfeeding Week! 🤍

Learning to feed your baby is just that, a learning process.

One of the things I love sharing with families is that small changes in positioning and latch can make a big difference to comfort, milk transfer and confidence. There's no such thing as needing to get it "perfect" from the very beginning.

This crochet breast/chest model I made is one of the teaching tools I use to demonstrate how a baby takes a deep latch, helping families visualise what's happening in a way that's much easier than words alone.

I also love that these teaching models reflect the diversity of the families I work with. Representation matters in birth and infant feeding education, and everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in the resources they learn from.

Whether you're breastfeeding, chestfeeding, exclusively expressing, combination feeding or using formula, you deserve compassionate, evidence-based support without judgement.

Every family's feeding journey is different, and every family deserves to feel informed, respected and supported.

🤍 Happy World Breastfeeding & Chestfeeding Week.

Shame in the birth space is more common than we think. Often rooted in childhood conditioning, the pressure to comply with authority, and internalised expectations around birth. Many birthing people carry silent shame about how their birth unfolded, believing they weren’t strong enough, didn’t do it “right,” or should be grateful because others “had it worse.” In this blog, we explore where this shame comes from, how it shows up, and compassionate ways to heal and reclaim your voice.

Discover how shame shows up during birth and postpartum, where it originates, from childhood conditioning to compliance in healthcare and how birthing people can begin to heal. A compassionate look at reclaiming your voice and power in the birth space.

Non-binary people give birth. 💛🤍💜🖤

As we celebrate Non-Binary Awareness Week and Non-Binary People's Day, it's important to remember that pregnancy, birth, and parenthood are not experiences that belong exclusively to women.

Non-binary people become pregnant.
Non-binary people give birth.
Non-binary people breastfeed, chestfeed, bottle-feed, and nurture their babies with love.

Everyone deserves maternity care that is respectful, inclusive, and centred on their individual needs.

For many non-binary people, pregnancy and birth can involve navigating misgendering, forms that don't reflect their identity, or healthcare environments that weren't designed with them in mind. Small changes in language, curiosity instead of assumptions, and genuinely inclusive care can make a profound difference.

This Non-Binary Awareness Week, let's celebrate the diversity of families and continue working towards birth spaces where every parent feels safe, seen, and respected.

Because everyone deserves compassionate, affirming care.
