Stillness doesn't require a quiet mind.
One of the greatest things Yin Yoga has taught me is that I can find calm, even when my mind is anything but quiet.
My thoughts can be racing, my to-do list growing by the second, & my brain jumping from one thing to another.
Then somewhere within the stillness of a beautiful Yin practice, I can find a little peace amongst all that noise.
Not because my thoughts have magically disappeared (I wish!!) & definitely not because I've managed to switch my brain off.
It's because I've learnt that I don't have to follow every thought that comes along & that's something I adore about Yin. It's a practice for the mind as well as the body.
We spend time in postures, allowing the body to settle, exploring sensation and learning to be present with whatever arises.
Some days that feels wonderfully peaceful & serene, like a deep breath that hits the spot. Other days my mind has 15 entire conversations with itself while I'm lying over a bolster!
Both are perfectly welcome, it's all part of the practice.
You don't have to arrive feeling calm to experience calm.
That's one of the most beautiful lessons we can take from our mats into everyday life.
There's room for the noise and the stillness. They can exist together. 🤍
