We were delighted to arrange for the team from Sweet Pea & Willow Florist to join MHA Lauriston for a wonderful flower arranging session this morning.

The residents had the chance to learn all about different blooms, watch a demonstration, and then create their very own unique posies. It was such a joy seeing everyone’s individual arrangements come to life—each one as special as the person who made it, and filling the room with the most beautiful arrangments

Thank you to Sweet Pea & Willow Florist for sharing their time, knowledge, and love of flowers. Moments like these remind us of the comfort and joy that creativity and nature can bring.

Recently there have been quite a few concerns around direct cremation companies and how their television adverts are misleading local communities. These adverts have now been banned.

Families deserve clear and accurate information on funeral options available to them.

This truly highlights the importance of choosing your local independent funeral director.

Here at Willows we pride ourselves on clear guidance, fair pricing and being able to help families through every step.

When you choose us, you choose a service built on trust, experience, and the simple belief that every farewell deserves to be meaningful.

Glossophobia – it’s more common than you think

Glossophobia is the technical term for a fear of public speaking – and it affects millions of people, even when speaking about someone they love deeply.

It is completely normal to feel nervous, shaky, or worried about speaking at a funeral. The thought of standing up in front of others while you are already grieving can feel overwhelming – and you should never feel pressured to do something that feels too hard.

You have choices, and we are here to help:
Write it down – notes or a full script take the pressure off remembering everything
Ask someone else to read it – we, a family member, or a celebrant can share your words for you
Keep it short – a few heartfelt sentences are just as meaningful as a long speech
Choose a reading or poem – sometimes other people’s words say exactly what you feel

At Willows, there is no “must-do”. Your tribute can be spoken, read, shared, or kept private – what matters is that it feels right for you.

We understand how hard this moment is, and we will support you in whatever way you feel most comfortable.

Our family caring for your family 🤍

Why Choosing Local Matters: Willows Funeral Services
When you’re arranging a farewell for someone you love, every decision feels important – and choosing who walks this journey with you makes all the difference. At Willows Funeral Services, we’re proud to be your local, family-led team right here in our community.
Here’s why choosing local matters so much:

We know our community We live here, we work here, and we care deeply about the people and places that make this area special. We understand local traditions, places of worship, and the little details that make a service feel personal and meaningful – because this is our home too.

Personal, caring support You won’t speak to a call centre or a stranger miles away. When you call Willows, you speak directly to our team – people you can meet face-to-face, who will listen, guide you, and be there for you every step of the way. We take the time to get to know you and your loved one, so we can create a farewell that truly reflects them.

Flexible and attentive Being local means we’re always close by. Whether you need us at short notice, want to make changes, or just need someone to talk to, we’re only a short distance away. We adapt to what you need, not a one-size-fits-all formula.

Supporting local lives When you choose a local business, you’re supporting local families, local jobs, and the community we all share. Every service we arrange helps us give back and keep caring for the people around us.
At Willows Funeral Services, we don’t just provide a service – we stand beside you with kindness, respect, and understanding, right here where we belong.
If you’d like to talk, we’re here. Call us on01424 421488 or visit us at 9 Sedlescombe Road North St Leonards On Sea TN37 7DA – we’re always here to help.

There is no “right” way to say goodbye — and at Willows Funeral Directors, we believe every funeral should be as unique as the person being remembered.
Some families choose a traditional church service; others prefer a quiet, intimate gathering, a celebration of life, or something that reflects a hobby, passion, or interest their loved one enjoyed. We have helped families create all kinds of meaningful tributes — from simple and peaceful, to bright and joyful.
We also understand that every family has different needs, beliefs, and budgets. We will always give you clear, honest information, and help you make choices that feel comfortable and right for you. Nothing is too much trouble, and no request is too small.
Arranging a funeral is one last act of love you can give. We are here to help you make it perfect.

Every life is unique, and there is no “right way” to say goodbye. Here is a simple guide to the main options available:

✅ Traditional Funeral – Service, procession, burial or cremation; respectful, familiar, full of ritual.
✅ Direct Cremation – Simple, private, no attendance; ashes returned to you to remember in your own time.
✅ Green / Natural Burial – Eco-friendly, woodland or meadow setting; returns gently to nature.
✅ Burial at Sea – Peaceful coastal resting place; for those who loved the ocean.
✅ Celebration of Life / Humanist – Non‑religious, personal, focused on their story, music and memories.
✅ Faith & Cultural – Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and all beliefs; we honour every tradition.

At Willows, we explain every option clearly, guide you gently, and arrange exactly what you wish for.

Our family caring for your family 💛

Today we remember the day courage changed history. Over 156,000 Allied troops — British, American, Canadian, and from across the free world — stormed the beaches of Normandy, facing unimaginable danger to fight for our freedom.

Ordinary men became heroes. Thousands never came home; thousands more carried the scars forever. They didn’t fight for glory — they fought so we could live in peace, safety, and liberty.

Freedom is not free. It was paid for with their blood, their bravery, and their sacrifice.

We will never forget. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 🇫🇷

Writing a eulogy: words from the heart

One of the most meaningful ways to honour a loved one is to speak about them, share their story, and let others know just how special they were. But we know that writing a eulogy can feel overwhelming, especially when you are already grieving.

Please remember: there is no ‘perfect’ way to do this. A eulogy does not need to be long, formal, or filled with fancy words. It simply needs to be yours. It can be funny, heartfelt, short, or detailed—whatever feels true to who they were and what you want to say.

You might want to include:
✨ Favourite memories or stories
✨ What they loved, and what made them unique
✨ The things they taught you, or how they made you feel
✨ Thank yous, or a final message from you to them

If you are struggling to put your thoughts together, or need someone to talk it through with, our team is here. We can offer gentle guidance, ideas, and support to help you create something beautiful that honours their life.

You don’t have to do this alone. 💛

"Memories are the threads that keep our loved ones close, long after they have gone. A kind word, a shared joke, or a quiet moment together—these are the treasures that time cannot take away.

At Willows Funeral Services, we help you weave those memories into a fitting tribute; a service that tells their story, honours their personality, and gives you a meaningful place to say goodbye.

We are here to guide you with gentle care, every step of the way.
