I have the most amazing ‘job’. As part of my role as a celebrant I occasionally conduct services for a solicitors who are heirhunters.
Their clients often have little to no family but my focus is to research, find out what I can and provide a fitting service…. We all leave a footprint after all.
For a service this week, I was helped by the MOD who kindly gave me information about an ex marine 1st class, who saw active duty but sustained an injury which saw him medically discharged.
He has family but no contact, they will be at the funeral to pay their respects and will learn all about their father/brother.
I have produced an order of service, and he will have a flag of the Royal Marines on his coffin.
There may only be 6 people in attendance, but his story will be as detailed and interesting as any other service that may have a full chapel.
Each day is a school day as I learn about the lives that people lived.

Today is a stark reminder of how valuable our voices are as celebrants! The same as a carpenter or a plumber will use their tools’ my voice is my tool to providing a good service!
Waking this morning, with no voice at all, leaves me making contact with other colleagues to be ‘on standby’ if nothing improves!
A reminder to be grateful for things we take for granted. ❤️

Sometimes people feel it’s wrong to laugh at a time of loss, however maintaining humour is also a way of ‘coping.’
I received the following message yesterday that really made me chuckle and lifted my day. 🥰

Well Amanda, well done this captures P so well, luckily we have left out some of P’s other stories due to young audience, but over time we will have pleasure of telling them.
The way you have crafted this text about our mums life I can’t wait to see the movie about it!!! Only if George Clooney plays me of course.
I will have a read through and me and Sara will catch up and make sure all correct for legal reasons, before we sign the film contract.
This is an excellent start and don’t imagine much change needed

Dear Amanda

We would like to say thank you very much for the lovely service you conducted in memory of mum. It was very emotional.

The detail of The Memories covered her life just as I remember them. I think it made everyone visualize certain times they shared with her.

Also thank you for sending us the keepsake of the service, it was very thoughtful of you. We will be able to read it whenever we need to. I think that is special.

Once again we thank you for being a guiding hand at a very difficult time.

It’s taken a while for me to set up a business page, so here’s a little about me.
Having worked both my teens and adult life in retail becoming a celebrant was a very considered decision. After just a few months on starting my new career I soon wished I had discovered this world years ago.
I have the privelidge of meeting the most amazing people and learning something new every day. I work closely with my families to provide a tailored and unique service for their loved one ensuring that in future years they look back at the day knowing that the stories they wanted known were captured in a warm and loving service.
Helping people at one of the most difficult time of their lives is something very special. 🌹
