Music has a powerful way of bringing people together – and that’s exactly what inspired the creation of the Saint Francis Hospice Concert Band.

Founded by Paul Binder, the band brings together staff, volunteers and local musicians, all sharing their time and skills to support the Hospice Band.

The response has been incredible, with musicians joining from across the local area, including healthcare professionals, supporters and community members who wanted to be part of something meaningful.

This weekend, friends and loved ones of Jamie will be taking on the Three Yorkshire Peaks Challenge in his memory.

Jamie was someone who brought people together - warm, funny and incredibly talented.

After the care Jamie received at Saint Francis Hospice, his friends wanted to give back - raising vital funds so other loved ones can experience that same support in the most difficult moments.

We’ll be thinking of you all as you take on this incredible challenge this weekend!

This Volunteers’ Week 2026, we’ve been celebrating the incredible people at the heart of Saint Francis Hospice – our 700 amazing volunteers.

From welcoming visitors on reception, supporting people on the ward, driving, fundraising, and running our retail shops, their time, energy and compassion make a real difference every single day.

This week we said thank you with a programme of special activities – from relaxing wellbeing sessions to behind-the-scenes hospice visits, creative workshops and even volunteering in our beautiful gardens with friends.

As a charity, we simply couldn’t provide our vital care and support without our volunteers.
To every single volunteer – thank you. You truly are our Golden Heartbeats.

A huge thank you to West Essex Hospices Appeal!
Since 1989, they have donated £58,000 to support individuals in our care and loved ones at Saint Francis Hospice.

Their generosity helps provide essential support during the toughest times – and now they’re also helping us bring wellbeing resources like mindfulness colouring and children’s bereavement books into the hospice.

Because of supporters like WEHA, loved ones can focus on what truly matters.

A truly special moment at the hospice last week...

Our Pastoral Care Co-ordinator and Interfaith Minister, Paula Graham, hosted a blessing of our sanctuary alongside contributions from individuals of different religious backgrounds within our community - all coming together to celebrate this shared space built on care and unity.

Our sanctuary and our hospice services are here for everyone.
