Today's solar eclipse is a reminder of how rare some moments can be 🌒

In hospice care, we witness how much people treasure the time they spend with those they love.

We asked the team at Saint Francis Hospice,
If you could relive one special moment with a loved one, what would it be?

Sue was a loving wife, amazing mum, a devoted nanny and someone who cherished every moment spent with family and friends. With a wonderful sense of humour and a brave face no matter what she was facing, she was loved deeply by those around her.

When Sam's mum, Sue, reached the final stage of her cancer journey, she had one wish: to remain at home, surrounded by the people she loved.

With support from the Enhanced Hospice at Home Team, Sam shares how care, reassurance and kindness helped his family through one of the most difficult times of their lives.

"At a time when we felt lost, the hospice gave us strength, reassurance and dignity, and for that
we will be forever grateful."

Huge congratulations to our volunteer sonographer, Jo Eastman, who has been named Outstanding Volunteer of the Year at the National Palliative and End of Life Care Awards.

After first volunteering with Saint Francis Hospice in 2013, Jo has gone on to transform the way ultrasound is used in hospice care, carrying out more than 950 scans and helping shape practice far beyond our organisation.

The awards judges said:
"Jo Eastman is an extraordinary volunteer whose innovation, expertise and compassion have transformed palliative care at Saint Francis Hospice and beyond."

Jo's story demonstrates the incredible difference volunteers make, sharing their time, skills and expertise to help deliver the very best care for our communities.

Congratulations, Jo, and thank you for everything you do.

"It's not just a place to die. It's a place to keep going."

When David was diagnosed with cancer, he wasn't sure what a referral to Saint Francis Hospice would mean.

Today, he says the support he's received has helped him cope both physically and emotionally. From one-to-one support and wellbeing sessions to exercise groups and new friendships, the hospice has helped him realise he's not facing his journey alone.

Many people are surprised to discover that hospice care is about living well, maintaining independence and getting support for both individuals and their loved ones.

If you or someone you care about is living with a serious illness, we're here for you.
