Checking on how long, how far apart, how frequent your surges are when labouring takes up a lot of energy.

It isn’t something that is necessarily needed. Is your energy better spent doing other things - relaxing, tuning into your baby, resting, swaying, visualising…

While we are timing surges, paying attention to the clock in general, we are not releasing oxytocin.

Where is your energy best spent?

There are ways to make the timing of surges less intrusive but there are considerations with these too.
A partner taking on this role - but be mindful she or he will not be releasing oxytocin then either.
An app on a phone - blue light from our phones inhibits the release of hormones and make it harder to switch off.
Checking for a small period of time - but stop, ask yourself, who is this for?

Sometimes baby news comes as a complete surprise. One minute Yuwen was coming along to her first coffee morning here at Babies in Waiting Hockley, chatting, laughing with no apparent ‘signs’ of labour and the next day we hear her beautiful baby boy Auden is in her arms.
It’s a great reminder that early signs of labour aren’t always present and that sometimes a oxytocin filled chat with other mums and babies can be a brilliant way to spend a morning when you’re ‘waiting’

Have you ever considered that the world around you is training your brain to believe birth is negative?

The appointments, the tests, the checks, the media, that headline, those stats…

All suggesting, proposing and talking of intervention and negativity.

These things are not the only reality of birth but if this is what we are inadvertently focusing on we are being led towards it.

Your brain is always filtering out the information that doesn’t seem important and if the world around us speaks of birth in a negative light the positive stuff won’t get a look in. The brain isn’t hearing that it’s important enough!

So positive birth prep is not just positive for positivity’s sake! It is needed. It is vital.
It is training the brain to look for, pay attention to and see the value and truth in what our body can do and does do when best supported.

This is what we do at Babies in Waiting. We change your focus.

In my Babies in Waiting sessions, in private hypnobirthing sessions particularly, I have the luxury of time.

Time to spend following a thread of a conversation, to explore a fear, to allow space for thoughts to come and ideas to take shape.

And the end result is often a conversation that was so needed.

And just like in birth we deserve this time to be heard and work through feelings and make our best decisions.

Positive births do not come by accident

The Babies in Waiting course was the catalyst to open my mind and consider what my body really needed and what actions I needed to take

I am also forever grateful that the universe sent me a beautiful midwife 💫 to watch on quietly

So there I can acknowledge a little luck but for the most part it was intentional actions and mindset

🔥Studies show us that feeling hot is a subjective sensation which we can affect. If you’re reminded by others of how hot it is, you’ll start to feel hot too! If you focus on the temperature and think about how little air there is, chances are you’ll start to feel especially hot. If you watch others feeling stressed about the heat this can affect your own body heat.

🔥We feed off each other’s emotions. Feelings are contagious and what we focus on manifests.
Does this work for stress and fear too?
Oh yes!!....we explore this lots in our hypnobirthing sessions.

💧But back to the heat or should I say cold!!! We have to change our attitude to the heat and we will experience less of it. So next time you feel you’re melting imagine yourself in a cool refreshing shower, holding ice cubes in your hand, feeling icy drips of water down your back. It helps!

💧💧And if you’re actually brave enough to finish your shower with a cold burst there are many benefits 👇🏻

💧💧💧it supports the body’s innate healing power by activating the immune, lymphatic, circulatory, and digestive systems 🙌🏻

💧💧💧💧cold flannel (keep one in the freezer) a cold footbath (heaven) add in a drop or two of peppermint oil or put a little on the back on the back of the neck - all this and think lovely cold thoughts 🙌🏻
