Checking on how long, how far apart, how frequent your surges are when labouring takes up a lot of energy.
It isn’t something that is necessarily needed. Is your energy better spent doing other things - relaxing, tuning into your baby, resting, swaying, visualising…
While we are timing surges, paying attention to the clock in general, we are not releasing oxytocin.
Where is your energy best spent?
There are ways to make the timing of surges less intrusive but there are considerations with these too.
A partner taking on this role - but be mindful she or he will not be releasing oxytocin then either.
An app on a phone - blue light from our phones inhibits the release of hormones and make it harder to switch off.
Checking for a small period of time - but stop, ask yourself, who is this for?
