KWT ARE ISSUING A HEAT WEATHER ADVISORY AND AN AMBER HEAT HEALTH ALERT 🔥⚠️
Alerts are in place from 9:00am on Wednesday 8 July until 9:00pm on Sunday 12 July.
Summer has certainly arrived across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and while many of us have been hoping for some proper sunshine, the latest weather charts are showing that this spell of hot weather deserves a little extra respect.
After carefully monitoring the latest forecasts, Kernow Weather Team is issuing a Heat Weather Advisory as our third heatwave of the year begins to develop.
Over the coming days, we're expecting a prolonged spell of hot, dry and increasingly humid weather that will continue through much of this week and into the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to reach 23°C to 32°C, with the hottest conditions likely across inland parts of Cornwall, while coastal areas may occasionally benefit from a cooling sea breeze.
However, while the sunshine is fantastic for many, it's important to remember that everyone copes with hot weather differently.
Babies and young children can struggle to regulate their body temperature.
Elderly are more vulnerable to dehydration, and people living with heart or lung conditions, diabetes or other long-term health conditions should take extra care during this hot spell.
Certain medications, including some antidepressants, antihistamines, blood pressure medicines and diuretics, can also make it more difficult for the body to cope with prolonged heat.
