Many groups offer sessions to meet specific goals. For example, to meet your intentions, beat stress, reduce chronic pain, balance your emotions etc.
What I offer, is space for you to bring what you want. Maybe you don’t fully know what you would like from attending? Then these sessions are perfect for you.
Sophrology’s greatest strength is that it can meet you where you are, without assuming you know what you need.
Practices can help you notice what is going on for you. Bring awareness to how this is, for you personally, and make space for the change you want.

Sessions start again on Tue 18 Jan on Zoom.

So if we need to spot the signs and make good choices to avoid burnout, how do we do that?

When we’re approaching burnout it can feel like one of the hardest times to make good decisions. Sometimes the decisions we make feel dramatic or fatalistic because we feel out of control. However maybe any choice, that changes the way things are, is a good one.
A whole range of coping strategies, preceded me making a dramatic decision. I felt like every strategy I put in place was working less well than the last one. It was as though I was in a whirlpool that was slowly sucking me under.
I have always prided myself on my professionalism, for me that meant holding clear boundaries between my professional and personal self. Professionally I was practiced at being whatever other people needed me to be. When my coping strategies stopped working and I started to feel overwhelmed however that stance worked against me. I built my boundaries higher, I hid my vulnerability more, I couldn’t risk anyone seeing how much I was struggling and I pushed others away in a bid to keep myself safe. I needed help but I couldn’t connect with anyone from behind my high walls where I was working so hard to hold myself together and appear in control.

If this resonates, or if your story is different, you can contact Minds Connected for support. Message here or email from the website in confidence.

There’s lots of press about burnout.

Burnout isn’t a medical diagnosis and not everyone experiences it in the same way. It can impact your physical health, your mental health, your relationships, your sleep, your performance, your motivation, your decisions….

For some it stems from exhaustion, for others from overwhelm or prolonged stress. It can be hard to recognise that you’re approaching burnout. It can be even harder to acknowledge it and do something about it.

Burnout can be really frightening, often people don’t understand what is happening to them.

We work in cultures and systems designed for profit and productivity. We are told we need to be more resilient. Do we though? Do we need to toughen up or do our working cultures and systems need to change? It all depends what meaning you give to the word resilience but I wonder if being more resilient just means we learn to be more tolerant of what is wrong. Do we end up just building strategies to cope rather than making sustainable changes to thrive?
Burnout shouldn’t be inevitable because of our cultures and systems and to protect ourselves we need to spot the signs and make choices.

Do you feel too fidgety for a seated Mindfulness or meditation practice? Are you keen to do a regular practice but need an organised group to keep you motivated?
Maybe you’re looking for something new and different to calm your mind and help you switch on/off?

Sophrology is a dynamic practice with gentle movements, short meditations, breath work and visualisations. It is fully guided and simple to follow, just turn up – there’s no need to motivate yourself further than that.
Some of the benefits can be: clearing your mind, more focus and concentration, grounding or shifting your energy, opening your mind up (for those who want or need to be creative), generally calming down and relaxing your body and mind.

Sessions are by donation and are on Thu at 1715 GMT and Mon at 0815 GMT.

If you’re looking for a chance to carve out some time for yourself and want to try a short, simple practice to renew your energy, this practice includes a combination of breath work, movements, short meditations and visualisations – it is fully guided and simple to follow.
This is not an exercise class. There’s no need to change your clothes or work up a sweat. Just find a quiet space, where you won’t be disturbed: Do it at your desk, from your sofa, at the kitchen table…

Some of the benefits can be: clearing your mind, more focus and concentration, grounding or shifting your energy, opening your mind up (for those who want or need to be creative), generally calming down and relaxing your body and mind.

Sometimes we push ourselves hard with the best of intentions – telling ourselves all kinds of stories about why it’s important and how much we need to try hard and push on through. The flip side, of course, is that we need to recognise when enough is enough. This message usually comes from our body before our mind. Whilst the mind is still saying ‘one more late night’, or ‘I have to get this done’, or ‘just keep going, you can rest on the other side’ often our bodies have already had enough. This can result in anything from a headache to burnout or even something more serious. If you listen to your body when it whispers you won’t have to hear it scream.
Sophrology helps you to tune into your body and to the link with your emotions and thinking.

With Sophrology we’re not interested in thoughts, we’re interested in how the body feels and we use techniques to not only notice the body and release tension, we also work through the breath and gentle movement to positively and gently impact our emotions and processing. In addition, we use short meditative pauses to increase our attention to physical sensations. We use visualisations to engage with what is meaningful. It may sound complicated but it really isn’t! Each session is designed personally; it is fully guided and clients are encouraged to repeat exercises regularly, between sessions, to gain the full benefits of this method.
